Need latest version of SC4 Deluxe

I recently had the urge to play SC4 again after at least seven years after my old laptop bit the dust. After failed attempts to revive it, I decided that I would just purchase another copy. I found and downloaded a copy from Origin. I realized, after trying to add the NAM plug-in, that the version I purchased (v1.1.610) could not be upgraded to use it. So, what is the easiest way to get the newest version?

The one from Gog is the best. Be sure to get the Offline Installer version after checkout when you go to download it. They have a launcher called Galaxy by default and while a few say it's ok, most find it's best to skip Galaxy. The game is currently $19.99, but a couple or three times per year they mark it down to $4.99.

Steam is also fine from the play standpoint and is equally compatible with NAM and other mods. The reason some peeps don't like Steam is you have to be connected to play. (Others like that it keeps track of hours played.)

I downloaded the new version from GOG. I also downloaded the NAM. When I launch SC4 it starts normally. When I launce a city, it eventually crashes back to desktop. HELP!!

In order for the Full Controller (default option) to work, your SimCity 4 game needs to be patched, so it can access more RAM. Note for this patch to work, you must be using a 64-bit version of Windows and your system must have at least 4GB RAM installed, although both have been pretty standard for a long time now.

Inside the NAM download (zip) is a file SimCity4_4GB_Patch_Script_V3.bat, if you run this it will handle the process for you automatically.

Of course the second option is to re-run the installer (note you should manually remove the previous NAM install first), selecting the appropriate LowRAM_NoRHW Controller. That said, even you do use this, if your system is suitable, there is no negative to patching SimCity 4 anyway, since all it does is allow the game to use more RAM. This can help to avoid the same problem, if your other plugins get large enough that the original limit proves insufficient, which again leads to a very unstable game.
