Hello everyone. I've been experiencing this phantom slider bug for a quite while that I don't even remember how long this bug persists. Public Safety Dept. (both fire stations and police departments) and Health & Education (only health, education is okay) is totally bugged, slider goes all the way down in time and advisors go nuts. It's the only city I have that I put more than 1.000 hours in it so nuking it is no option. I wonder if is there any way I can fix this. Also I'd like to let you people know that I've been searching this bug for days and I've been trying all sorts of stuff but no luck, hopefully yet.

Note that clicking Error: No name takes me basically nowhere. Bulldozing all of these fire stations, police departments and hospitals didn't help either. I'd appreciate a lot if someone can guide me through to fix this annoying bug. Thanks in advance!

Yes, but it's a bit complicated.

Some of the info out there is quite wrong and makes the problem worse. :O

Ever since I worked out a surefire method to fix all the phantom slider bug problems, I've been intending to write a step by step tutorial on how to do it, but other projects have taken precedence. Since you have multiple classes (Police, Fire, Health) with the bugs, it's a separate repair for each. (The method is the same, but each borked budget sub file in the city save data needs to be offset by the exact amount of the incorrect funding.)

The easiest way to resolve this is if you would send me your city save file and your plugins. I know this latter part is against accepted standards, but I believe we can wave that for this specific case as long as the files are transferred in private. It would be equivalent to a technician being allowed access if they were physically present at your comp, but in this case that's not an option.

So, to start: What is the size of your Plugins folder when compressed to .7z format? And second, would you mind if I used your city tile for screenshots I might later post in the tutorial I'd like to write?

@mawendir

Just to mention about the .7z format and this is where the file manager 7-Zip comes in handy.

Then when right clicking the folder in the context menu, it allows adding to the 7z format (which uses higher compression than regular zip archives).

Like so:

The same can be done for your city too if you'd like, and then upload both to the temporary hosting WeTransfer site. This way it ensures the files are only available for a week, and get automatically deleted after then. As @CorinaMarie said, this can be considered a technical support service for solving the Phantom problem. *;)

I'd be honored to give something back to this wonderful community that I've been a part of for more than a decade and a half, even if it's something small. You can take any screenshot as much as you want and share as you wish without even asking. Unzipped size of my plugins folder is 5.13GB (excluding NAM) and when zipped, it decreases to 3.47GB. As I don't know if you either need the datpacked folder or the normal one, I zipped and uploaded them both, separately, just in case you need to alter the plugins folder, with both having a notepad file that contains every plugin's names I'm using with their respective owners' names and save folder.

I'll be sending the links as soon as possible.

Whew! This took us way longer than we expected, but all the phantom sliders are no longer present and will stay put wherever you set them.

Note: All pics in this post are in the city created by @mawendir and not by us. *;)

Sample pic in the year 189:

    1 - 7010b-0512 - Budget Start Year 189.jpg

Five years later and the Public Safety Department and Health & Education budgets have not changed:

    2 - 7010b-0513 - Budget Still The Same 5 Years Later.jpg

As I mentioned in the PM, there's a major caveat to how I had to handle the Health Funding. This particular Downtown Athletic Club (altered and placed where you already had it), must never ever be bulldozed. It's what's holding the budget offset amount to fix the phantom slider.

    3 - 7010b-0515 - Downtown Athletic Club - Do NOT Bulldoze.jpg

^ The original on the STEX has a wee bit of a bug and we'll be looking into that in more detail soon.

Then some more little caveats. Because of those Error: No Name entries that I cannot remove, you'll occasionally see this in the news:

    4 - 7010b-0506 - Fire Dept Angry News.jpg

^ Clicking the "Increase funding" linky takes you to a fully funded fire station so there's nothing which needs altered. Since you are using our FUN mod, that will alert you to any actual problems. The fire fighters will not strike since your stations are set at 100% funding.

As mentioned, I'm not able to get rid of those Error: No Name entries so you will still see them like this:

    5 - 7010b-0507 - Fire Dept Master Budget.jpg

    6 - 7010b-0508 - Police Dept Master Budget.jpg

    7 - 7010b-0509 - Health Master Budget.jpg

^ The only one we know who might possibly be able to fix those is @smf_16. *;)

In the PM, we've attached your city tile, some detailed notes, and the slight plugin changes you'll need to make.

Good luck with it, and please let us know here how it goes. *:)
