Hello,

my name is Varko, I am a Game Artist and passionate Cities Skylines player.
Recently I decided to start modding and create my own assets for my city project.
I was reading a lot and watched tons of videos to get familiar with modding for CS and I stumbled upon a few issues, that I could no solve so far or find any direct answer to.

So, here is my question and I hope someone could help:

I have created a custom Wall, that is asymetrical (with a slope on one side) and my idea is to add a node, that appears when the angle extends a certain degree and create sharp corneres. In my case I have set the max turn angle to 60°Editos_CS_node_01.jpg.6eda69c5159ad5f1b6a8f19a47a7a1fe.jpg
Everything seems to work so far, except that the custom node seems split and one half of it is turned.  I have read the documentation, but cold not understand the flags and node properties completely.

I hope someone could help :)

cheers,

V.

Hey and welcome to the forum !

So ... it looks to me as if everything is correct ... a node consists of "two" node meshes, unless its an end node....and I guess you probably did know that ! ;)

And that´s what you see on the picture.

The "problem" with nodes is, that they have to be symmetrical, because  you can´t sepcifiy the direction/position of a node at the end of a segment.

When you create a junction, then the two nodes are kind of mirrored 180 degrees/sitting diagonal to each other.  (looks like what happend in your case)

The only way arround that is to use bend nodes/segments in order to change the direction of an asymmetrical segment (network).

Take a look at the vanilla asymmetrrical road for example.

I am not 100 percent sure if thats correct....havent taken a look at any wall networks so far,  but I think thats the case here ...

    Hey Clus,

thank you for the 'warm' welcome and quick response!
I feared that you would say something like that. It does make me happy that I seem to have understood the system, not fully, but Im on it.
Is there a better documentation for the nodes/segments and usage? I know that this is a special case, solving it would be super cool I think. That way we could have walls with sharp corners, instead of them being rounded.

I do fear that it might not work, because I did encounter some shading issues on the corners, when the cornere is supposed to be sharper.
Tried seperating the node/segment mesh, smoothing groups ets.
My workaround would be to have the corners as props, but I wanted to avoid it.
I will digg in a bit more into it and keep you updated.

ps: My project is a recreation of a real city the heart piece and main park is a medieval fortress. I tried all kinds of assets from the workshop, but none of them suited. So I decided to create my own collection, that I will share at some later point, once done.

    Thank you for now :)
