A couple questions from a Noob with the Mac version

Since it was on sale for just 3,99€, I figured I would get the Steam edition of SC4 for my 2012 Mac Mini which runs Catalina. Of course I'm very familiar with the PC game, but it's been a bit of an adjustment on the Mac. I'm very happy with the performance considering I've only a HD4000 iGPU to run the game.

Anyhow, a few questions have come to light in the last couple days, as I've been doing a lot of messing around to make my Windows Plugins work on the Mac.

  1. Is it possible to disable the Intro Videos, the "Set Launch Options" in Steam doesn't seem to work with -Intro:off. Or is there no equivalent for the Mac edition? It would save me so much time, as I'm having to run SC4 briefly many times over.
  2. Is there some issue with Scrolling on the Mac Game?, specifically the in-game menus. My mouse works fine in Safari/OSX, but going up in menus is particularly painful. I've tried the game with both a generic bluetooth and second Mighty Mouse, it seems to work if I keep the mouse moving vertically while scrolling? Is this normal?

Would appreciate any knowledge on these two, I'm sure I'll have other questions as I go deeper into the Rabbit Hole.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I had some scrolling problems, too. I use SteerMouse and a Logitech MX500 corded mouse. In the game, I use the arrow keys.

I've had no luck with altering Launch Options on the Mac.

I didn't even know this was an option for some users.  That would be incredible if do-able on a mac!  Please keep us in the loop if you figure this out.

As for the rest of your questions I'm afraid I cannot be of much help.  For the longest time when running through in game menus I was actually clicking on the ip-down arrows to get through it.  Learned a couple of months ago though that I can use the scroll movement on my laptops built in trackpad.  A little glitchy but its still much faster.

I'm thinking if I replace the .mov files with some that contain nothing but a few frames, it might be a decent work-around. I'm not sure though how happy that will make MacOS, since it's messing with a library file, only one way to find out I guess! I'll report back once I've had a chance to look into it.

Trust me, going from a Corsair high-end mouse with a scroll wheel that can devour a huge parks menu in five flicks of a finger, I can't begin to consider using the keyboard or buttons for this. The Mighty Mouse wheel can be pretty quick, but I'm guessing no one bothered to test the game with anything but trackpads. I honestly 23 years after first trying one, still can not understand why anyone thinks they are better than mice. Not to mention, TrackPoints offer a degree of precision they simply can't hope to compete with, even if they do take a while to get used to. I may report it as a bug to Aspyr, what the hell maybe they might actually consider what piss poor testing was done, that missed something so simple.

I long had issues with scrolling on my Macbook trackpad, same issues as you (going up is painfully slow) (32 bit App store version). Now that I got a new Macbook (64 bit Steam version), it's actually worse, with it being slow going down OR up. So this idea that trackpad is better... well, maybe for some folks, but not for me.
