Help downloading and installing mod

Help! How do I put this plugin NKO in my plugin's folder. When i download it and open it says it needs an separate app? When i just move that to my plugins folder it does not work?

That's unusual. When I go to click the download link and it pops up for me here in Firefox.

As follows:

 

Then it saves to my Downloads folder, from where it can be moved into Plugins directly. It sounds like you've got the default download option to Open the .dat file directly, and this by default will be unrecognised as a file format unless having an associated program already (such as Reader).

If you use Chrome and make sure this is unchecked from the download status bar at the bottom:

This way it'll prevent your system from attempting to open the file when it doesn't need to be.

Well sorry to say but it did not help. :/ I am using chrome so if i click the download link this happens (in the pic). But i moved it from my downloads folder to plugins, but it did not do anything. So still need help. Small EDIT: Using 'More options' is useless.

Hmm. It looks like maybe this is a Windows 8 or 10 thing, and I'm unsure what else to suggest as I'm still on Win 7 here myself.

I dont want to say it but sadly it did not help me at all. That zip thing didnt help me cause i already tried something similar.(not exactly sure)

For that part im not sure of. It did download into the download's folder.

That's a good sign.

So just to confirm how you've got the .dat file placed in your Downloads folder?

If so, the next step is to move or copy this into your Plugins folder, located at:
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins

The indication that NKO has been installed will be with the gameplay, for how lower wealth RCI won't automatically be upgraded to higher wealth.

So yeah just to clear that out again, so i have already tried it and it does not work, I dont know i have tried this method but it seems to not work. ( I do have tested it ingame to see if it works...)

Perhaps you could post a screenshot of your plugins folder and the location of the mod within it.  That may help the folks here determine what the problem may be.

A screenshot would be helpful indeed as @Flann said.

If having CAM installed, or any other mod which alters the Simulator exemplar (e8da7677), it's possible that NKO is being overridden. This would mean it needs to load last so it can be applied by the game. For this reason it could be worth placing the .dat file inside a folder like z-99 - Load Last to do so.

(By the way, I've made this your own separate thread since the difficulties you are experiencing are not related to NKO itself, but to the installation of Plugins in general.)

Hi, @TheEstGut

I might be misreading the situation, but I think the problem might just be that you're trying to open the DAT file, which you don't need to do to install it.

To install mods that use DAT files, you just need to put the DAT file into your plugins folder. Once the DAT file is in your plugins folder, it is installed -- you don't need to open it or run it or anything like that. The game will automatically load the DAT file the next time you play the game.

The only time you would ever need to open a DAT file is if you want to examine or modify the data inside. If you ever want to do that, there are programs you can download to open the files. That won't be necessary in this case, though.

Yeah sorry but you are clearly misreading it and you do not clearly understand. (Sorry nothing personal)  I do have it in the plugins folder but It simply does not work. I have tried out many ways to fix it and done multiple tests to see if it works -__- ,but it simply does not. So sorry to say it but you did not really bring up any new solutions to fix this problem. Case closed.    (Do not take it personally, I am not angry or mad, just to be clear)
