CTD when population reaches 180k

Quite simply: my CTDs when playing (Mac-user) dramatically increase once I reach populations over 180k. Never an issue when creating a hamlet or a suburban city (CTDs normally caused by a plugin that I've identified and avoided).

I thought in my old region it was an issue with the large city sizes, but it seems to affect my medium city sizes too once it hits around 180,000 residents (and about 100k commercial). I thought I could pin it with something I was doing, NAM, highway walls, plotting roads, etc. but even something as minute as scrolling causes it to CTD

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem?

If this was on Windoze, I'd ask if you are using the -CPUCount:1 parameter in the startup target. Maybe that applies to Macs too?

Could you please guide me to the Mac-version/bought on Steam/Aspyr guide to getting this done?

I'd love to if I could, but I don't have a Mac. :O  We might be able to figure it out tho. *;)

Do you have an icon from which you start the game? And if so do you have an option to check the properties of said icon? What we are looking for would be the line which has the full path to the SimCity 4.exe and that's where (at least in the Windoze versions) you can add the extra parameters.

I guess the Mac version of "Properties" would be "Get Info" but it's for sure a lot more limited than the former. Could it be in Steam?

It might be. I have the Gog version so I really can't say. Are there options in Steam for Startup Options?

Yeah there's "Set Launch Options", which opens a pop-up where you can type in something.

Update: I don't think the launch options is the exact equivalent for where you enter -CPUCount 1 in Windows. But I did think, if this constant CTD could be solved by keeping CPU cores remaining at 1, this means lowering the quality of graphics demanded by the game could stave off the need to use a second core.

So putting down all graphics levels to medium seems to have had some effect. My city is now up to 220k and CTD is still happening but definitely not 1 minute into loading the game.
