@laumastro

I'm creating a new topic on your behalf so we can hopefully get some expert technical help. (Most peeps don't read other's status pages.)

To the readers, here is the convo as posted on my Status Feed:

Hi. I am new to the site and no matter how much I search I cannot find where I can find the editor of buildings plus for sc3k. Even if it's in English. A few days ago I dusted off the game I have had for years but I could never run the BAapp.exe from the building editor. Can you guide me some link on this topic ?. Thank you

Hiya and welcome to Simtropolis.

Let's start off with the format of your game. Are you using a disc version? If so, what operating system are you using? (Such as Windows 7 or 10 or such.)

Or do you have the digital version of the game from GOG?

30 minutes ago, laumastro said:

The game is mounted on an iso, I have had it for many years, and I passed it to an iso since the cd was lost. It always worked very well for me, but the publisher architect couldn't make it run.
In the win7 32bits that I have I get an appcrash / error and the file that I have is the BAApp.exe.

And I'm personally at a loss for what to suggest. I have the GOG version which placed an icon to the BAapp.exe on my desktop. I double click it and it runs so I've not experienced any problems.

Any suggestions for laumastro will be appreciated.

Hi @laumastro

Please allow me to welcome you to the site also. Glad you could join us, and for being interested in SC3K is great. For me personally and I'm unsure specifically what might be the issue with running the BAP tool. I found a few articles @catty-cb posted here from the old legacy site which refer to it, but nothing specifically about troubleshooting.

Does the game start for you properly or is there a hang-up with it not loading as well?

Beforehand ... thank you for welcoming me. I spent years playing this game, I bought it in a store and I did hours and hours, I never knew how to customize buildings and now that I have time I came across this game again. I never had problems but as the original cd was broken and at some point I transferred it to an iso I was able to rescue and preserve it but it is seen that some file when I made the iso was ruined. The game runs fine on win7 x32. But the publisher did not walk as before.

It's good SC3K is able to run on your 32-bit Win 7 computer, and using an ISO should be fine as the virtually mounted disc.

For there being a crash with the BAApp.exe program, could you post the error log report or a screenshot of what this says? While we don't know we can learn anything from it, that could give us some clues as to what the issue might be to hopefully find a solution for you.

Given its age and the fact that you transferred the CD onto an ISO, its possible you are running the original SimCity 3000 version which didn't include Building Architect Program, to get the BAApp you had to install a patch file, there are 14 patches depending on the language.

@CorinaMarie   I'm fairly certain I passed over a copy of these 14 files to you ... back in 2018 sometime, they were called

batpatch_allenglish
batpatch_australia
batpatch_dutch
batpatch_englishsp
batpatch_englishuk
batpatch_englishus
batpatch_french
batpatch_german
batpatch_italian
batpatch_japanese
batpatch_portuguese
batpatch_russian
batpatch_spanish
batpatch_swedish

I'm going to attach the All English version to this post, and if you and/or  @Cyclone Boom  don't have these files I'll upload them to dropbox for you, @laumastro   it may not fix your problem, but running the patch in shouldn't cause you any problems as long as its SC3000 you have not the later Unlimited version as that runs a different version of the BA and its not compatible with the SC3 version

Thanks @catty-cb for the info there and sharing the zip.

I've checked the City Builders archive you sent us back in 2018 and can confirm those "batpatch" files are indeed present inside.

As follows:

SC3K batpatch Files Archive.png

Then additionally the "allenglish" zip you've sent with the matching 7,742,454 bytes size.

@laumastro

Let us know if you'd like any particular other language file to try.

It is likely as you say @Auge del ciclón that for years to pass I cannot assure you. On the other hand, the error appears as "appcrash" ... I was searching and tried many things but I can't get it to work.

Wow. thanks @catty-cb for the help. The version that I count is the SC3K the world edition,

Can you direct me to the file link to try in Portuguese and Spanish?
Thank you

The version that I count is the SC3K the world edition,

I checked the Wiki Page for SimCity 3000 in the Expanded Edition section. As I understand that, the World Edition you have is essentially the same as the Unlimited Edition. The two apparently differ for which building sets were included, but it seems the Building Architect tools will be the same, but (perhaps), with a different language for the text.

I believe the patches in the above posts are only for the Original SimCity 3000.

So, let's dig a little deeper.

Do you know the location on your hard drive of the BAapp.exe program? I'm wondering if it is only on the ISO image or if it did get installed to the hard drive. My guess for your Win 7 32-Bit is it should be located in C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000 World Edition\Apps folder. (Or something similar in name to that.)

If you have an icon for it on your desktop what would likely indicate it was installed. If so, you could right-click on the icon, select Properties, and then copy the information in the Target field to paste here.

That's good because it likely rules out any problems with the path or registry entries.

Let's try this now: Rename your BAApp.exe to BAApp.exe.bak. You will get a warning about changing the file extension. Agree to that. Then copy in the Baapp.exe included in this zip file to the same location on your hard drive:

    Baapp - SimCity 3000 Unlimited.zip

^ This is a copy of mine which I hope will work for you. Because Maxis allows the Building Architect Tool to be shared as patches on the older version, I feel certain this will be seen as sharing in good faith. (And this program isn't of any use to anyone unless they have the game.)

It might be these aren't needed now with the help @CorinaMarie gave above. Let's try that first and see whether it solves the problem.

I'll upload both of those Portuguese and Spanish files here though in case they are useful for you (or anyone in future):

    batpatch_portuguese.zip

    batpatch_spanish.zip

That's great news. Glad to hear it worked for you. *:8)

The useful thing here also is the solution will also likely help others who read this topic too. All the best with creating content for SC3K as you wish, and feel free to share any of your creations to the dedicated category on the STEX too. We'd love to see what you come up with.

Por cierto, ¿qué función funcionó para ti? ¿El archivo que envié o los parches?

Bueno los parches. Esos funcionan bien. Lo único es que no me permite (o no sé cuál es su comando) elevar la vista en el cuadro inferior derecho para ver los edificios más altos y pintarlos.
¿Alguna idea o algo estoy haciendo mal?

It doesn't take the command with the arrows it just allows me to rotate the building with the space bar and zoom in and out but not go up or down. Any ideas?

Hmmm. No, I don't know what to suggest. I tested the arrow keys and they do work for me when the building is tall.

    Just an idea...

Maybe you've got the Num Lock key enabled? If so and this would mean the number pad would be active, and those arrows not available. Some keyboards do have separate directional arrows though, and so perhaps yours doesn't have those. There's an article here which explains about this key.

I suspect this might not be the issue, but just thought to mention it.

Your answer helped me. I enabled the 'Bluq num' but it doesn't take the arrows.
Yes, the keys serve as commands like 8 up, k down, u left and O for right, the i is to frame the total. ....
    Thanks again.
    To continue enjoying!

I make an inquiry. It doesn't take the burden of buildings that I made in the editor. Does anyone know why?

I've been reading the SimCity 3000 Manual and it seems you have to render the new building before it can be used in the game

I had a rummage around in google to see if I could find the manual in any other languages, but could only find the English language version

great!. I have tried it as you say, it does not matter if it is in English, it is a matter of trying. I did some 'buildings' and well ... they are funny but I was able to solve it.
