SimCity2000 view in 3D

Hi,

I made a small demo in unity which can open SimCity2000 cities (.sc2 files) in 3D. I've tried to reconstruct buildings to look the same as in Sc2K, with "eye-candy". I think the buildings in Sc2k are very colorful and I've not seen them around, only a few, they have a special touch to them. I know it doesn't look the same as in the game, but still quite similar.

So this is a very limited demo application, I can continue it if there is interest. I'm not really into graphics and 3D modeling so it looks like in the pictures.. some more features: ortho mode, perspective mode, traffic, day/night switch and 'ride on train'.

Okay, this is really cool. The second picture kinda reminds me of Simcopter, though with much better looking buildings.

This is really good. Not sure why this didn't get more attention. I bet someone could turn this into a 3D remake of SC2K.

Well, I'd like the idea, but remakes of SimCity are prohibited, not only theoretically. EA shut down OpenSc2k, because they are still selling classic Simcity2000 (!). But other simple 3d city building games exist, so what makes this currently valuable is not a game aspect, but viewing the "same" city as in sc2k..

EA temporarily shut down OpenSC2K because the repo included allegedly copyrighted assets converted from the game files. A remake without those assets would be fine.

Would assets that are based off of EA's allegedly copyrighted assets, such as 3D versions of 2.5D sprites, be allowed? I'm not sure, but I'd suspect under current US copyright law, they likely would not be.

This looks much better than the 3D viewer available on Steam! (no offense to the creator)

This is how OpenTTD and OpenRCT2 are still a thing (besides the publishers not being as greedy).
