Game Won't Start

So I just ran into an issue where the game will not start. I click the shortcut icon and the game looks like it will start, but then stops.

I tried checking to see if update KB3086255 is installed, I have windows 7 btw, it is not. I tried taking the disc out and putting it back in. 

Was working fine a few days ago. Any helps and tips are greatly appreciated

Win7 has some sort of issue with the discs. I have the discs too, but can't use them. I understand Win10 has the same prob. You'll probably have to download it from GOG.

Almost certainly your Windows 7 OS has this Security Update, unless you’ve been declining all updates for Windows. For at least the last 18 months, updates include all previous ones, rolled up into single monthly patches. This probably explains why you don’t see the specific KB3086255 installed on your system.

Ultimately, if the game runs, but quits almost immediately without error, then it’s failing the DRM check, which is a result of the removal of the required driver by the aforementioned update.

Unlike Win 10, it’s possible to use the workarounds noted in this thread. So there is not necessarily any need to re-buy the game. Digital editions don’t use the affected DRM though.

Yes, as rsc204 stated, your win 7 machine most likely has the DRM check disabled.   If you have downloaded any of the cumulative updates, then KB3086255 has been rolled into one of the updates.  It will not show up in your update list.  My suggestion is to follow rsc204's advice and follow the workaround.  The only other option is to uninstall all of the cumulative updates and go back and install the Security Only updates.  Not an easy task since some updates are dependent on previous updates and must be installed in the correct order.  It would take you many hours to do this.
