NAM 36 install error messages

Trying to install NAM 36 on Win10, on SC4 deluxe downloaded from Gog.

When trying to install NAM 36, I get these 2 error messages:  "...controller compiler failed to build a network compiler...usual reason: Java not installed."  I do have Java 8, installed and updated and functioning.  NAM exe concludes the attempted installation with: "Error in opening file for writing, TSCT_setup.exe."  My mistake:  prior to this download failure, I had deleted the NAM and Z folders from plug ins.

Should I pony up and repurchase SC4, or is there a better way?  Thanks.

I haven't had any issues with the GOG version and the NAM--in fact, it's the version most NAM Team members would recommend.  It sounds like, for whatever reason, the NAM installer isn't finding your Java installation.  The TSCT is a Java-based program as well (though its installer is not--it's a Clickteam installer).

NAM 36's installer is rather capricious at times, and we're actually moving to a completely different installer system (which, coincidentally, is Java-based) for NAM 37.

I'd consider re-downloading the NAM, and possibly re-installing Java.  Worst case scenario, don't bother with NAM 36, and wait for our next release.  We're planning on issuing a "release candidate" for NAM 37, prior to the "official" release, to allow for larger scale testing of the mod's new installer and architecture.

The error messages have nothing to do with SC4.  So repurchasing SC4 would be a waste of money.

I am using Windows 10, the GOG version of SC4 Deluxe, and was using Java 8 Update 181.  I had no problem running the installer.  I uninstalled Java, and got the same error messages you did.  I reinstalled the latest version of Java 8 (update 221), and again had no problems running the installer.  So if you do anything, I would uninstall and reinstall Java.  Are you using the 32-bit version of Java, or the 64-bit version?  If you have the 64-bit version installed, try installing the 32-bit version.

Other alternatives:

According to ReadMe document (read-first-nam36.html), under the section titled "Running the Controller Compiler on a Mac":  "The failsafe behavior when the Controller Compiler cannot run is to install a full, pre-compiled version of the NAM Controller, with all extant code included."  This says to me that despite not being able to run the Traffic Controller compiler, NAM should still work properly.

The Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool (TSCT) is not a requirement for NAM to work.  You have an option at the end of the Installation process (just before you hit the Finish button) to install it or not.  If the installer still cannot find Java after you reinstall it, just don't check that box.

Oh, but it's so much fun to fiddle with all of those settings! (at least for those of us fiddlers who like tweaking things such as TSCT or the dozens of meaningful parameters each network has in a "slope mod").

The community is wise.  Reinstalling Java 8's 32 bit version might be a thing.  Did try installing a fresh copy of the NAM, but achieved same zilchness.  The NAM 37 sounds very encouraging; will be on the lookout.  Yes, buttons are fun, but the lesson here is: it depends on the buttons.
