Hello everyone,

I would like to know how to get the “RRW Rail” to show in my Region? I have made sure that I don’t have any Rail Mod except for RVT’s. Here is a breakdown of what I have installed.

  1. zzz_RRW Texture Pack Override. Which includes 3 DAT files.
    1. zzz_BSC RRW Lot Alt. Textures.dat
    2. zzz_NCD RRW Lot Alt. Textures 1.dat
    3. zzz_NCD RRW Lot Alt. Textures 102.dat
  2. SM2 RRW files. I added z_____ so it would show up later, so there are no conflicts.
    1. RRW Lottex SM2.dat
    2. RRW Lottex SM2R2.dat
    3. RRW Lotex  SW.dat
  3. RVT. I added z_____ so it would show up later, so there are no conflicts
    1. RVT zRail Mod
    2. RVT zRum for RRW
  4. SFBT. It is installed with NAM 36 Mod. It is located in NAM, Sub-folder Rail

Texture, SFBT Rail Textures Mod Darker Texture.dat

5. PEG. Remove his Mod located in the ZZZZ PEG Facelift Mods. Alternate Railway

              Set Mod 205.dat

6. MGB G – NGN in the Rail Texture folder I have 6 DAT files.

              A. MGB NGN PEG Rail Crossings US RHD.dat

              B. MGB NGN PEG Rail Crossings US.dat

              C. MGB NGN PEG Rail Crossings.dat

              D. MGB NGN RRW Crossing US RHD.dat

              E. MGB NGN Crossings US.dat

              F. MGB NGN RRW Crossings.dat

7. MGB – TGN in the Rail Texture folder I have 3 DAT files.

             A. MGB TGN PEG Rail Crossings US RHD.dat

             B. MGB TGN PEG Rail Crossings US.dat.

             C. MGB TGN PEG Crossings.dat

I have included 3 Pics. I know the RRW Rails in pic #2 is part of the BAT for the lot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ofc this isn't my area of expertise, but I believe RRW is a NAM thing. I'll move your topic to their forum. (And if I'm wrong the experts can shuffle it from there.)

You'll have to re-drag the existing rail lines.... pain to have to do, but that's the deal for a region that's already been started..... (I've been upgrading my region since I upgraded to RRW a few months back).  Existing elevated rail will be fine, with no changes needed.

As the main developer of the RRW, I should give my 2 cents here.

The RRW does not automatically override the Straights and diagonals. You have to draw out the track again.

Curves and turnouts that are based on the Puzzle Pieces should conform however.  The minicurves will replace the standard switches and curves that you draw.

Here is the official documentation for the RRW for people using it for the first time...

https://www.sc4devotion.com/namdoc/feature-guides/realrailway/realrailway.html

I should probably start a support thread here on ST but I am mainly based for NAM work at SC4D.

Thanks for choo-choo choosing the RRW mod *:thumb: . A major expansion to the mod is in the works. Can't wait for it to get completed.

Cori, Thank you for the quick reply. Sorry to have and put it in the wrong area. Thank you for moving it to the correct area.

Robert, Thank you for the quick reply. Well if it takes me to redo the rail network I guess I need to get busy. I Region is about 1/4 done and my new region I just started.

    1. RVT zRail Mod
    2. RVT zRum for RRW

This is the original mod by Rivit, you should remove this if using RUM for RRW, since the original is designed for non-RRW users.

Indeed, again another mod that alters the rails, you don't want this if intending to use RRW.

                  F. MGB NGN RRW Crossings.dat

I don't know how you ended up with 6 versions of the Rail Crossings here, but that's certainly too many. I also note by the file names, these come from different versions of NGN.

My installers are not like the NAM one, you can't simply run it again to change options. If you need to run it again, you must delete the NGN folder beforehand manually, otherwise you'll end up with many redundant files and most likely the mod not working as intended.

    7. MGB – TGN in the Rail Texture folder I have 3 DAT files.

                 A. MGB TGN PEG Rail Crossings US RHD.dat

                 B. MGB TGN PEG Rail Crossings US.dat.

                 C. MGB TGN PEG Crossings.dat

And once more we have a problem. Did you know that NGN and TGN are in fact the same mod? In so much as both replace the exact same set of textures, only NGN removes the Grass from them, whilst TGN replaces the original grasses with Terrain-matching ones. As such, the two mods are not compatible with each other, you need to decide which to use and remove the other.

Honestly, the simplest solution is to remove both the NGN and TGN folders from within z____MGB Mods, then run only one of the installers again. This will ensure you absolutely only get those textures you need.

None of the above however, is going to help get RRW to work more generally. Click with the rail tool on a section of track, does it convert to RRW? If it does, the previous advice to simply re-draw the tracks will be sufficent to get the new rails in place. BUT, if it doesn't work and the presence of this file suggests to me it may not:

You will need to re-run the NAM installer, choose the option for a Custom Setup, then ensure "RRW" is selected in the installer. Afterwards you will need to re-draw all the track, but if the code and files for RRW are not installed, that won't actually work.

As for why you see part RRW and part non-RRW, that's very simple. Many of the files you have installed are correctly setup to display RRW on certain components. But none of them are the base mod for RRW, the one that's in the NAM installer and necessary for the bulk of the rail network to show RRW.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

rsc204, Thank you for the quick reply. The PEG Alt. Railway was removed before I wrote this post. I removed the RVT zRail Mod. I redid the TGN and it is set correctly. Redid the NAM and followed your directions. There is no SFBT or Rail Textures in the NAM folder.

Now it is time to check out if will work. It will take me some time to load the game, I only have 7.21 GB in my Plugins Folder. I will reply after I check it out in a Region I have for Testing.

If it works correctly thanks for the information and setting me in the correct direction.

RealRailway, as an override network is placed into the z___NAM folder under y_RealRailway folder. If you have that, it's a pretty good sign it's installed correctly.

    Solved:

    Hello everyone,

Well I have the RRW is up and running. I want to send out a big "THANK YOU" to rsc204 for his help in this matter. His advice was all I needed to get this matter solved. All I need to do is learn how to use the RRW. It doesn't lay out the tracks the same way as the Maxis tracks. So like learning something new there is a learning curve.
