Help with Workshop Assets and Copies

I'm having a problem. I sometimes load a workshop asset into the asset editor and change the props or color, etc. Then I'll either keep the original and just turn it off in the asset manager, or I'll unsub the original and keep my copy. With RICO assets, I keep the original so I can retain the RICO settings. The problem I'm having is a few assets I have turned off in the asset manager still show up in-game instead of my copy. I've checked multiple times and I definitely have the original turned off and the copy turned on. It's getting really frustrating.

So my question is how do I keep the RICO settings for a given asset if I unsub it?

Thanks.

With RICO settings, you mean the settings that the asset creator set for the building?

There is an xml file called PloppableRICODefinition.xml next to the .crp file of the asset that contains the settings.

You can copy this file and place it next to your own asset. If you changed the asset name, you will have to make some adjustments to the file (insert the right name).

Yes, the settings the original creator set. I'm generally happy to keep those, I just want to change the building cosmetically. I'll check out the guide. Thank you for the help.

Ok, now I have another question.

I've found the assets I want to keep the RICO settings for, but every RICO file is an XML called "PloppableRICODefinition." What do I do with them if they all have the same filename? Do I put them in my local assets folder? And if so, do they need their own folder? And do the .crp files have to be in the same subfolder? I assume the game will still be able to "see" them if the .xml and .crp are both in subfolders within the normal assets folder?

    Thanks again for your help.

The file must always be named PloppableRICODefinition.xml and the .crp must be in the same folder.

I would recommend you to create a subfolder for each asset. place the .crp and .xml file in that folder. Name the folder exactly like the .crp file.

Alternatively, you can also create a single PloppableRICODefinition.xml file with multiple <Building ...> tags, but that will make the files a bit less portable.

Awesome, this was exactly the information I needed. Thank you. I'll try this and keep my fingers crossed. The game takes so long to load, trial and error can be really time consuming.

I'm happy to report that this worked like a charm. And now I know how to do this again if I need to. Thanks again.
