Hello.

Is there a way to make this message quit showing up for every road connection I make?

Hmm. Interesting question. I'm going to guess it might be possible provided you always wanted the answer to be only Accept or only Cancel. However, I've really no idea where to start to see if it could be done.

Would it have been better for you if I'd not replied at all? *:???:

Often times these kind of questions come from someone who's willing to look into modding, but needs a bit of encouragement. I've personally poked around enough to have feel for what might be possible and I've created a few mods which do useful things. In this case for that popup I'd guess you'd want to look at the code associated with the Accept button, see if you can remove both buttons (this part I'm certain could be done), then see if the code you found can now be associated with the popup window itself (this latter part I'm not so sure about). The idea being that it might then flash on the screen for a brief moment, but would always execute the Accept code.

If you aren't familiar with iLive's Reader, that'd be the place to start. Grab The Reader, Beginners Guide too.

It might also help if I move your topic into the SC4 Modding - Open Discussion since that's where more techy gurus hang out. Let me know. *;)

It is good that you replied, that way I instantly know for sure. I saw it as ironic in a dark way,  was really hoping that this fix would already exist. Why I posted this in the main discussion.

Otherwise what you explain is basically a script implemented in the game, totally doable, with the right amount of motivation.

Go ahead and move it to the modding section! And thanks for the links.

Moved. And now that it's not just a General question, I've looked into this.

I first opened up SimCity_1.dat in Reader and looked at each and every UI File entry and none look like the one for the Create a Connection popup. The closest I found was the generic 0xea8cc3c6, but even if that is the one it's prolly called from somewhere else and then populated. Next I searched for the text itself and I did find 0x0a8e152d contains the "Create a Connection" title and 0xaa8e151b is the full text message below that. Both of these LTEXT entries are located in simcitylocal.dat as they'd be language specific.

What I had hoped to then find was which UI called either of these LTEXTs (by IID) or a LUA script referencing them. I had no luck at all. So, unless someone can point me in the right direction, I'm going to suppose this is something handled in the .exe code and not accessible for modding.
