Brown Boxes on RTMT

Hi all, I've downloaded the road-top mass transit mod, and the installer that goes with it. The mod appears to work, but I have brown boxes on top of the bus-stops. After looking around forums I've also installed SimGoober's bus stop pack, but still the boxes. I've read some posts about files being missing that results in the boxes, but I'm fairly certain that I installed the download (and the installer) without fiddling with anything. Is there something that I'm missing? Of all the mods, I'd really like to get the busstop one working!

*please note* with regards to any advice/instructions that I am very, very dumb. Please feel free to simplify any help down to a personally offensive level

Please, make sure you read the instructions that come with RTMT.  By default, it is installed at \Documents/SimCity 4/STEX_Downloads/Cogeo/RTMTV3/ReadMe.html.  They provide some very specific information on what dependencies are needed for RTMT to work correctly.  If you have installed the add-on pack, make sure you read that documentation as well.

Brown boxes are a sure sign that something is missing that's required for RTMT to work. To get to the bottom of what exactly that is, we really need to know exactly which version you've installed.

For example did you install the 3.6 update? I would recommend you do, but it's important to read the instructions carefully, since the install is a little complex. Inside the 3.6 update, make sure you've opened "Core Add-On Pack" and copied the folder "Models" into the RTMT installation folder in your Plugins for SC4. This includes the "Signs" subfolder, the contents of which are mandatory, missing those would cause every RTMT lot to show a brown box.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Hi guys, thanks for the help so far! I've downloaded RTMTV350, and the Install program that I downloaded separately. Does that mean there's a newer version, or is there an update 3.6 to the existing one? I have two folders in my plugins folder- RTMTV3 and RTMTV350.  Both have a models folder, but I don't seem to be able to find the "signs" subfolder. Could be I'm somehow missing that?

If there's a newer version of the Road-top mass transit, would you happen to know where I can download it? Maybe I should delete these folders and start over

Thank you again for the advice, it is very much appreciated!

No, these signs were a new feature of RTMT 3.6, if you've yet to install this update, then you would neither need or have them.

Maybe that's a good idea, since you really shouldn't have two folders. Let's run through the steps for a typical install of RTMT...

As it stands presently, the last release is a bit complex to get installed. You need to run the installer for 3.5 first:

There is one installer for the main RTMT package. But there is also a second set of options you need to install only one of:

    • Install_RTMTV3_SingleProps_PropSet.exe
    • Install_RTMTV3_PropFamilies_PropSet.exe

Honestly, if we want to keep this simple, install the first one of those, it's highly unlikely you'll want the latter.

Now it's absolutely vital you follow the readme when installing the props. RTMT has unique customisation, but for it to work, you have to do some work. This is not a mod you can simply install and use. You must keep only those props you want to see on the RTMT lots, for each prop choice you make, you MUST have the necessary dependencies installed to show that model. For example, if you aren't using the props for SG's bus stops, you will not need SG's models. Some props are included in the package or part of the original game, so will not need further dependencies. All of this information is provided with the documentation, so if you don't go through that, you are unlikely to successfully install RTMT.

A further update to RTMT, v3.6 was released and can be found here:

There is no installer for this package, you must manually install the files, in many cases, overwriting or replacing files from v3.5, Again there is a comprehensive readme included that explains each step and without reading that, you will end up with problems.

Lastly, an optional add-on for including new stops to work with the NAM's TRAM (Tram in Road / Tram on Road) networks can also be installed:

Of course if you aren't using the TRAM system, you will not need these.

Currently the team (RTMT) is working hard to update RTMT to a new v4 release. There will be one simple installer and we've a little secret (up our sleeves for now), that will make getting started a lot quicker and less complex. I can't give you a timescale on this, but we're completely aware that the current installation is not as straightforward as we'd like it to be. When the new version arrives, we're confident users will see the difference.

Okay, I'll wipe out all the files and take another stab at it with your instructions, and if I muss it up somehow, the v4 sounds very promising!. Thanks very much for the help, rsc204- I hope that all the Sims out there appreciate all the work and the (very detailed!) help- that you provide as much as I do! Thank you again, sir

Hi all! Last year when I was playing I was having some frustrations with the Road top mass transit mods and heard that there was a newer, more comprehensive version on it's way (version 4.0 I believe). Does anyone know where one can find the latest version? I tried searching the forums and couldn't see it

    Thanks in advance!

Hey, I just re-installed the game after a long pause. Is there any version 4.0 out there, or should I try the instructions that you posted?

v4 is still in development, I can't give a release date, like with NAM, it'll be ready when it's ready. However, we're very close to an internal alpha build now, so fingers crossed it will happen this year.

Outstanding. It's very encouraging to see all the hard work done by you guys on SC4, despite it's age. It's by far the best of them. The new content is a testament to it's relevancy! I'll look forward to it- rsc204

One more quick question- I was going to take another stab at installing the earlier version of RTMT. Is there a link to the most recent version? I tried searching the site but couldn't find it...

Thanks again for all the help everybody

I installed RTMT and don't have brown boxes, but whenever I plop a station the street tile disappears and only shows gras instead of the street, but next to the gras tiles on the left and right side the bus/subway station is visible, even the writing on the gras bus station is visible

what did I wrong and how can i fix this?
