Well, at least I hope someone is going to help me. 21.gif

I make the textures and a talented modder makes the rest - or I'll get stuck with what I have.

I think you may have put this thread in the wrong place. I would recommend asking a mod to move the thread to the Modding Transit Networks Forum .

I would then advertise your thread by displaying work done so far in the Ground Light Rail Thread  and maybe possibly in the NAM Development Thread . There are a lot of talented people there working on a very similiar concept but they are low on texture artists (they are all expert modders though). I think you would be able to help each other immensely especially as you can bring something to them in the way of textures. Pop over there and see what they say.

Good luck to you it is an awesome concept. As for me helping? I barely know how to add 2+2 together (5 right?) let alone mod!!! Hoepfully though I have helped you out with this post.

    Good luck with your endeavours

Something like this has requested this in the Ground Light Rail Thread before. Check out this post . The problem is so much the textures, the work laid in the modding this.

Maybe you should try to learn to mod this. I am sure that some like qurlix or smoncrie from the Modd Squad Transport will help you getting started.

as le_harv wrote please post in the proper forum and not just start a new thread.

For like what 4-5 months ago I ask if there were anyone how like to take the skin from NOB's Astrum Line and change it to fit the Notthingham Tram by Pitero. I ended up doing it myself. Now I have done a serie of trams and lightrail trains. It has taken me a while and I have learn a lot, but I am about to release my first train mod based on my own model and not just reskin of someelses model.

jeeze...give the guy a break! so he posted in modding research...and not modding requests, its in the ballpark, hell, its even in the infield. I understand the need to be organized in the forums, but somtimes its hard to know exatly where to post...lighten up!!!!

As for your request, i like the idea, but i do not have any knowledge of modding whatsoever

I think you may have mistaken my tone. I was actually trying to help WW get more traffic to his thread. It is in the wrong place for transit guru's to look at. I should have added 'get it moved to get more interest'. As for Vester DK he is an up and coming talented simcity artist who is branching out into new things (automata, modding). He also has worked on projects with the top dogs of NAM. Sometimes it is hard to understand what people are really saying. You can never really grasp a tone from a piece of text. Also you must remember that English is not everybodies 1st language. Vester if I recall is from Scandinavia so it can be hard to truly get across what he means. I know I couldn't write anything in Swedish, Norwegian etc... I am not speaking for Vester by any means but I am sure what was said was meant along similar lines to what I have also said.

PS I will check back and see how you are crackiing on. Vester DK's idea of PMing the guys he mentioned is a brilliant one. They are mod gods and will be able to point you in the right direction. From what I gather it is easy to learn. VesterDK is a prime example. Started small and now has countless noteworthy projects under his belt in the space of only a couple of months.

Why I encourage him to try to learn to mod was, that there are a lot of request around here that requires modding, but not very many people that can do it. Just trying to be realist and to point him in the direction of a project which he could join, doing another texture than the main one.

    Hi!

I wondered about a meaningful use for double One Way Roads. I wanted to get a classic type of Main Street with four lanes and tramway rails on the inner lanes.

Now I need some help with it, because I don't know much about RULs and transport network modding.

I want the Lightrail to use the rails, just like the GLR, and would prefer some kind of puzzle piece to start/end a stretch of CMS.

This is how it looks like:

ahh i see le_harv, i didnt mean to jump at you, or anyone in particular. It seems that moderators say to move to another forum so much, it would be easier if they just did so, and not jump on the newbies. anyways, no bad blood...good to see that it has moved to the proper place :]

This is the one thing I have always wanted in SC4. Four Lane Roads with tram lines in the middle lanes so the vehicles share the lane. I heard that you can't make the cars and the elevated rail in the same lane because the cars will drive straight thru the trams but you could remove cars from those lanes but still have the same road capacity as an Avenue or 2 one way roads.

Here is an Australian texture for this I have made:
    align=baseline>
The only difference is that it takes up the same space as a regular road. 1 tile. To fit the 4 lanes, half or the footpath is gone and the lane width is abit smaller but the cars should still fit, even if it's abit cramp. It will still work.

Here is a real life picture of this texture in action in Hartwell / Burwood on Toorak Road in Melbourne, Australia:
    align=baseline>
This was the closest zoom photography I could get without paying!

lakeyboy: Those look good. Just make the center double yellow and the lanes white and you have an American texture. 2.gif
EDIT: And just use Google Maps next time, if you want to get closer. 2.gif

This little project looks like it's going to go somewhere. Can we get Tropod or someone in here?

ANOTHER EDIT: My brain just hatched an idea...

You could use similar textures to an avenue. Remove the median junk, move the overlays a boit further away from each other, and, voila! you have a GLR-enabled road.

Now, how do actually do that...

go look in either the NAM Development or GLR threads... they're working on GLR-in-avenue, but need texture artists.... lakeboy, your textures are excellent... maybe you might want to help the NAM modders out?

and btw, Tropod has retired from modding 7.gif

If the game miss somthing, this is it. With the NAM we got very useful stuff, but this is missing. With this even my pre Rush Hour cities could have a good mass-transit network 29.gif, I can't help you, but i hope you'll find someone who can help you

    Good Luck!

    lakeyboy
Thank you for the information concerning the automata problem, I disregarded this.
So I guess my next step will be to join the team which is working on the other version that doesn't share GLR rails with other automata, though I see a problem with diagonal CMS then.
I really want this to be done.

Well, I suppose I'm the team being referring to. I've only done some preliminary work on it, but I know it works and I just need some time to sit down and make the puzzle pieces (or maybe make it draggable...I'm undecided)

So if you want to help make the textures, I'll PM you with information. And lakeyboy, if you'd like to work on it too, I'd appreciate it. I was mainly testing with your textures, anyway. 1.gif

(And I suppose Zeddic is probably anxious to do some network stuff. It's been a while...)

ryanb_sc4: Well, yeah, but you have projects you can do. I'm pretty sure Zeddic doesn't have any. But if you want to, that's great! The more help the better.

Hang on, I know you were testing the avenue with GLR in the middle but you're also testing the 1 tile width one with the texture I posted up? That great to hear. I know it's something that is very common in Melbourne but I'm not sure about the rest of the world.

And 1dera3, Google Maps / Earth doesn't have high resolution of all of Melbourne. The Western suburbs have good quality but if you scroll over into the eastern suburbs, it's all blurry very low resolution. I hope this changes soon. I had to use City2see to get that picture.
