Help! Can't load custom map themes

I'm experimenting with custom DLC today and I can get everything working fine except for map themes. I downloaded different themes and placed them in the "MapThemes" subfolder. These themes are listed in the CS menu and I can select them when loading a map, but for some reason the themes don't load in sandbox play. I tried using the Environment Changer mod, but it made no difference. Here's the weird part: I can load the themes in the theme editor and they show up fine. I've also tried making changes and saving them under a new name. But no matter what I do, the themes won't load in sandbox play. What am I doing wrong?

I guess nobody has a good idea of what you are actually doing. If I understand it correctly, you want to change the theme of an existing city. You use the Environment Changer. You activated the mod and the themes in the respective areas of the Content Manager. When you want to load a saved city, you select the savegame. Below the pic, you then see the drop down menus for "Base theme" on the left (like "Tropical (don't change)") and "Custom map theme" on the right (like "Caledonia (concrete) (don't change)". You change those settings with the drop down menu, anyway. You do not click on the savegame again, as that will revert the drop down menus to default, but click "Load" immediately.

Is that what you do, and you don't see the themes anyway?

Not sure if custom themes are supported without the workshop. We don't give support anyways for non workshop content.

Not sure whether that's the problem. You can always put themes into your local folder. However, this lets me think of something else:

If you changed a theme, did you publish it to the main menu? I think it asks you when you change the theme and save it. The question is not about publishing to the workshop, it's about making the theme available for the game. Themes in your local folder are only visible for savegames if you "publish" them.

He probably got a pirated version, hence the problem.

I didn't want to mention it, because it loads every other mod, map and asset just fine. It's only themes that won't load in sandbox play.

I tried Turjan's advice about selecting the publish option, but it didn't make any difference. Is my version of the game truly the source of the problem?

Sorry, we don't support pirated versions of the game, so no help to find here. I highly recommend getting the game - not only is it worth the price, but it's SO MUCH easier to just subscribe to stuff on the workshop, since it's automatically installed correctly.
