The SimCity 3000 Revival Project

Pleased to talk about this. I used to be a part of the SimCity 3000 Unlimited community. For a few weeks now I have been talking with fredfree from one of the biggest SimCity 3000 websites in it's heyday, Freeland. We have realized that many of the buildings from back then no longer exist, and it is certainly possible to bring them back. Fred has some CDs worth of old SimCity 3000 content from various places by many creators, like Freeland and the SC3KU exchange, and there might be some of my own (minimally re-edited) buildings coming back. I am unsure of where they will be uploaded, but it likely will be here. Right now I have about 30 buildings that aren't on the net right now with more to come. They will be uploaded in packs, I want to say.

My intention is to show off some of the best art from the creators of the past, so people can enjoy these works fifteen years later. I will also add some of my own work from the past as well.

SC3KU is now on the GOG gaming platform (https://www.gog.com/game/simcity_3000). I always use the Landmark Converter, which can be found at @catty-cb's website, https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/

Attached image: A Marriott by Aaronsdad, who was a brilliant creator back then, and a new work by myself, a Golden Corral (that is undersized), gentrified from an old building in the exchange in the 90s.

And I've been talking to @pclark06 re these files and also  @Cyclone Boom about adding them and the official maxis files back to the STEX under their own SC3 section, as a temporary file location the first of these files can be found here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex?folder=SC3%2Band%2BSC3K%2BDownloads%2FSimCity%2B3000%2BRevival%2BProject

As this is temporary file location no attempt will be made to add pictures or descriptions to them, and also as its temporary no account will be needed to download any of them, given the Freeland and SC3KU exchanges went offline a number of years ago tracking down the original creator isn't easier, if anyone recognizes these files as theirs and doesn't want them on the STEX can you please let someone know, equally if you are happy to have them back a thumbs-up would be great.

-catty

EDIT: As it had been a while I think I moved them over to the SimCity 3000 Page here as a more permanent solution

Thanks for being there man. I am definitely trying to contact people. Some are long gone. I know a couple have passed away.

As I requested here, this thread was split out of the pclark06 Retail BAT stuff topic to be its own standalone thread here in the new 3000 forum. *:)

Hi I just found this as I was flying around the web looking for SimCity 3000 unlimited buildings.  Let me introduce myself.  I am Aaronsdad and I recognized my building instantly.  I'm just blown away to see it here.

So cool to see you! I was a big fan of your work back in the day in Freeland! I am wondering if you still have your old buildings? I bet they could be popular here if you uploaded them to the SC3K part of the exchange. You made so much awesome stuff for the game! (Sorry I am like fanboying out right now)

    I'll second this idea.

While it's true the SC3000 forum activity dwindled here after the initial excitement of having a dedicated section wore off, it will be persistent as long as Simtropolis is around. This will be good for the peeps who drop in occasionally and would like to pick up some of the great works of yesteryear.

Yes. @catty-cb had to close it down. Here's her club on ST: City-Builders.info.

It should have all been transferred over to Simtropolis and be somewhere on the site ... having said that RL was proving difficult at the time and I could have missing something other than the site albums which I didn't move due to the fact there were 18 thousand pictures in them and they belonged to the SC4 Indexes which are now in the Omnibus, I keep meaning to go thru the site backups and double-check I haven't forgotten something .... anyway if you know what it is you were looking for let me know and I should be able to point out where it is  :read:
