You need the 50' TV to boast about it, so that the other parts about your life that completely blow chunks are overlooked by other, and you fell better. The big cars compensate for small penises, Americans don't like Pubs because they use them to kill eachother, and they need big houses to fit all the junk they buy but don't need, so they can brag about it. It's all about bragging rights. Sad, really3.gif

Well, at least we are trying to change.

You need a big tv because small tv's blow.  It's impossible to see anything on a 30 tv when you sit more than 5 feet away from it.  You need big cars so when you go somewhere off the road, you can actually drive.  I don't like pubs because I hate the smell of beer or other alchoholic beverages.  And I like having hallways wider than 1 foot and being able to stand up all the way.

And...what does any of that have to do with economic support for other nations? Who cares what size hallways you like? 41.gif

If you want to discuss conservationalism, buy a hybrid car. You'll get twice the gas mileage, saving money and drastically reducing oil consumption for a marginal increase in initial cost. My cousin has a Honda Civic, she gets about 50 mpg 2.gif (compared to an average SUV with 20 mpg, or sedan with ~30 mpg)

I have a hybrid car. I think it's great. 50 mpg, greater reduced emissions, lots of tax incentives, and it performs wonderfully. (Detailed babblings about my car are here )

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Hybrid cars lack engine power.  I've taken some on a test drive.  They dont' have the power of a normal engine.  And, like I said earlier, I'm planning on being dead when all this global warming stuff happens, so I don't really care about it, and I don't think I could force myself to care.

I'm cold.  It's only 59 degrees.  I hope global warming speeds up soon.

The most disturbing thing is that many people actually believe things like this, and not just sarcastically...it's a strong indication of the state of scientific and international awareness in the world 41.gif

I predict that if Russia and the US annihilate each other tomorrow with what remains of the missile supply, it would have catastrophic consequences around the globe. This is a good guess based on past events. Of course until it happens we have no idea what will actually happen, so why not push the big red button? The whole reason we have a brain and can predict outcomes is that we can act to prevent or further those outcomes.

I don't really care if the world nukes itself when I'm dead.  My corpse might heat up a bit, but I won't really be affected by it.

If you can't vote, it's doubtful that this will happen after you're dead, unless you die prematurely.

Ok, I can see myself agreeing with most of what vid says in this post.

1.  I agree that SUV's and over-sized pickups are worthless and wastefull.  That's why my family has a sedan.

2.  Indeed, a small TV is not bad.  Put your damn couch in the same room!

3.  Yes, you can live in a small house.  Mine is pretty small, and it works for 5 people.

However vid, watch what you say about us 'hicks'.  I live in the South, and, damnit, if I keep hearing $%&^! about it, I will really $%&^! you out.  Sterotypes, whether they cross countries or states, should be kept off this board.  I appologize about my language, but it is the only way to show how strongly I feel about this.  Keep your bigotry in check, vid.

I live in the south too, but in a pretty big city.  Last time I checked, Atlanta wasnt' that much of a hic town.  But I find it ironic that vid calls us hics, considering thunder bay has what, 20,000 people?  canada is the biggest hic town in North America! 18.gif

With most people driving suvs these days, I feel pretty scared to not be in one.  Even my 93 Grand Cherokee is dwarfed by some of the monsters on the road, like my mom's Tahoe.

big tv's rule.  Nothing like fragging your buddy in Halo on a massive tv!  (I have a 36 non hi def flat screen CRT)

My house is actually average sized.  Four bedroom plus the master one, two full bathrooms plus one with a crapper only, good sized kitchen, two common rooms, and a three car garage.  Big enough for me.

Maybe there is a problem in some people's attitude... I plan to be dead by 2080 I don't care about it I don't like cold I prefer big cars I don't like small TVs. What's the problem? These sentences always begin with I. If for a moment we could think about the future generations, and not only about I. Surely we have to die from something, which should be either an accident or natural reasons. At this point, Global Warming is not an accident nor is it a natural reason. It is a natural reason as long as its effects haven't been worsened by human activity.

We've been building a wasteful society in the Western Wold. And considering that most of the CO2 and CO emissions are produced by vehicles, we could blame everyone who has a car. At this point, we cannot stop using them, but we can improve the quality of air. I've seen a lot of times in the city, one or two people in huge SUVs that just makes the traffic worse and so the air quality.
Enormous TVs don't harm the environment as much as a heavy vehicle, but they're part of the wasteful society culture. I use a 14 inch TV and it's not impossible to see anyhting there.
And unfortunately, more eco-friendly technologies aren't really affordable for the masses, like the hybrid cars. Notice how companies prefer people to pay them rather than improving the environment.
Who cares if fuel-efficient cars don't have engine power? A car is used to move ourselves from one place to another. Period.

If we could blame a country, why not the UK? The Industrial Era began there. But that was many years ago, and it's pointless to blame the UK. Now, if we want to blame a country, let's blame all the industrialized countries. That would include many developing and developed nations. But it's still pointless to do that.

Certainly the global warming is irreversible, but as it has been said that small actions can be very meaningful.

why in gods name do you need to drive an 8.2 litre SUV?
    its just pathetic...

Some SUVs arent even designed to go off road (lincoln navigator anyone?)26.gif

if you want to drive off road get a decent 4x4 that actually does the job, like a Land Rover... they dont have rediculous sized engines and they are one of the best off roaders in the world.

theres no point in using the 'wee need an SUV incase we need to go off road because you never will unless you are a park ranger or a farmer..33.gif

And also, what if 80 years ago someone said the same thing We'll be dead so it doesnt matter? Its selfish and wrong.

8.2 litres is pathetic. You only need to go, what, 70 mph max. if you stay in the speed limit. You dont need it.

The problem with america: Everyone has to be seen to have it all. Dont care what else happens to anyone or anything else, as long as they look big. Its to make up for lack of size.

We used to have an SUV, and we used it to lug around alot of stuff. Sure, we actually did use it, but it was a guzzler, and we ended up getting two sedans instead.

I see more and more of the Hummers and those huge Pick up trucks on the road around Dallas.

Who wants a vehcile you need  a ladder to get into?

Part of the air polution problem is  not that the cars are poluteing more < generaly emmissions have gone down) it just there are more and more vehicles every year. So even though the per car amount of polution is lower  the over all polution is higher.

you notice i  said cars, Semi trucks are a totaly different matter. If the trucks were required to meet the polution standards that passanger vechicles required to. over all polution would be lower.

Oh brother.  Yes, Global warrming is real.  But why should we be worried about it? Its been happening throughout the ages. The only reason we're worrying about it know is that we have developed technology that can now monitor the weather. Besides, Im sure it was way worse during the 1910-1930s with all them factorys and no pollution regulations.

Well, from what I've seen, it's only the Americans that don't care. There are people in other countries that don't, but it's the aemricans that show this the most. Albertans don't really care about global warming, they hate Kyoto Accord, they have kept their jobs and still have factories that do pollute. Calgarys LRT system runs off wind power, and many of Albertas newst buildings are very energy efficient. At least they are making up for it. Take a lok at pollution distribution in the great lakes. In lake superior, aside from a dot in Thunder Bay Harbour, it's all on your side. You guys have tons of water, too. Oceans. Use desalinations. You can actually have a desalination plant and use the evaporating water to power the plant so that it runs itself, and then take the salt and sell it and make even more of a profit, while at the same time getting pure drinking water, 100% water, chlorine free. It's dirt cheap too. why don't you try that?

Hybrid cars, in a world with gas prices reaching almost 6 US dollars per gallon, and oil prices near the $50 a barrel mark, we have to realise that we are using too much, and need to slow down. A hybrid car is the most economic choice. Who fcares about powerful engines? If you live in a city, you don't need one, you'll be stick in grid lock most of the day. Aside from tax incentives and low cost, a hybrid car would save you THOUSANDS of dollars a year. so does public transit. Yearly daily use of public transit expensies is only about 7% what it cost to operate a car yearly.

Why do you need a 50' TV, explain without saying it's cool and for the experience and explain why you can't find a good bar/pub or whatever to go to to watch a sporting event there.

remember, waste not want not. Waste too much, and there wont be anything left. And the average Canadain lives to 81.

If you don't care about the earths future, and plan to die before anything goes wrong without helping, maybe you shouldn't have kids.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
