Only a small percent 'risks their lives' trying to escape form there, and only a few of them make it, and they end up where? A land that will prosecute them for wanting to be 'free'. If Canada and the United States both bordered Mexico and Cuba, Canada would, most likely, be the one with all the illegal immigrants. We have cubans in Canada too. Both kinds quote> There are many thousands, maybe millions, of cuban americans in florida and they all hate Castro. Must be for a reason. quote> A give him a break eagce, he's just jealous they don't flee to Canada. And I would disagree, there is such a thing as right and wrong. And in regards to the climate issue: Today's worries are enough for today. -

Really, who knows what will happen in the next 100 years? Anyway, I don't believe anything near that will happenquote> Note the image says 'if present ice sheets melt'... That's all of them, including the entire sheet of Antarctica and Greenland. It may not get that bad within 100 years, but it WILL be nearer to that line then it is now...quote> Yes. I believe in my notes it says the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. -

Date: 11/14/2004 8:45:26 PM Author: vidioman That's Hudsons Bay Basin! That isn't northern Canada! Edmonton is farther north than most of that I thought you mean Nunavut! Besides, only about 1000 people live in that area, anyway, since it's a giant wetland. Because it is on the Canadin sheild, there is very poor drainage. It's only about 1000 feet of swamp ontop of 8Km thick rock. And the farther north parts are tundra, so there isn't much up there to lose, other than polar bear habitats. Does the site you got that from have any info of the actual north? -Arviat is the geographic centre of Canada. It is slightly above the top of that image..quote> Oklahoma is north to me. I got it from my professor's pdf file of his PowerPoint presentation or whatever you call it. He got it from the chapter on glaciation in the textbook (Prentice Hall) and they got it from a McGraw-Hill textbook. But there was nothing else in the chapter on glaciation that showed what would happen to the rest of the north. -

And most of Canada's north is well above sealevel, aside from the coast. The arctic mountains are as much as 6000 metres high. Large areas of Northern Ontario wil be underwater. It's already a wetleand, though. quote> I hope the map attatched correctly. -

That's not even possible.quote> Well, if you guys had more than two parties, it would be easier. America is one party short of an Autocracy quote> I prefer a two-party system. In order to have a candidate that fits one's views exactly (or even remotely), one would have to live in a country with a Weimare Republic-esque choice of parties, and we all know what happen to the Weimar Republic. Isn't the scream-a-piller that one from the simpsons that was attracted to fire? and where on your list of things you care about does 'the well being of Earth' fall? quote> Yes, I did like that episode. It's below the well-being of man. If some law is going to save some trout or a beaver at the expense of a lot of people's jobs, some compromise had better show itself. While Orthodox are conscious about the well-being of the earth, people come first. -

As a freshman I'm in my second school year of studying the Spanish language. I've noticed a few Brazilian members here like SUICO but, as most already know, the Brazilian's official language is Portugese. Does anybody else here study or speak Spanish? quote> Me enoja espa

Date: 11/10/2004 9:02:02 PM Author: vidioman Well, I know not all Americans ignore global warming. There are those that do. Look at the protests! But, when you think about it, the people that the American people themselves choose to represent their exact opinons, what the Americans think, on a global level in totality, believe, it enforces our stereotype.(editors note: That made no sense, eh?) See how democracy doesn't work there? (editor is not against democracy, just looking at the bd side cause that's how I am ) It's not the actual Americans we (citizens of Earth that are anti-American government) hate, it's the people that they choose to represent them that do stupid things that make us think that they also think like that. So, basically, 48% of Americans do care. The other 51% don't, and 1 % is either braindead or can't make up it's mind. (they may also support it but are too 'manly' to say so. See: Men with big cars) -edited by vidiomanquote> I don't know about you (especially since we're from different countries) but I do NOT pick leaders who have my exact opinions. That's not even possible. I'm for a host of things the republican party is not, however, I have to rank my concerns according to importance. Abortion is more important than marijuana legalization, personal freedoms more important than forcing people to stop buying SUVs, people are more important than endangered fish or the scream-a-piller. -

Date: 11/6/2004 5:42:31 PM Author: beesbees Crise control at 60mph? What if you need to drive in a built up area? 30mph the speed limit round here for them... probably more or less the same there too.quote> I only use CC on open stretches of road/highway 40 MPH or higher (don't think it works below that, kind of defeats the purpose of 30 and 20 MPH if you could use it though). But the majority of my driving is on the highway. I learned how to drive in a Honda Civic. What a crappy little car. You couldn't keep a constant speed with your foot on the pedal, it was always up and down. -

I keep the cruise control on 60 MPH because (or 70 if that's the limit) because they SAY that your car is more fuel efficient at those speeds (if they constant). -

Date: 11/5/2004 12:14:09 PM Author: vidioman Well, from what I've seen, it's only the Americans that don't care. There are people in other countries that don't, but it's the aemricans that show this the most. Albertans don't really care about global warming, they hate Kyoto Accord, they have kept their jobs and still have factories that do pollute. Calgarys LRT system runs off wind power, and many of Albertas newst buildings are very energy efficient. At least they are making up for it. Take a lok at pollution distribution in the great lakes. In lake superior, aside from a dot in Thunder Bay Harbour, it's all on your side. You guys have tons of water, too. Oceans. Use desalinations. You can actually have a desalination plant and use the evaporating water to power the plant so that it runs itself, and then take the salt and sell it and make even more of a profit, while at the same time getting pure drinking water, 100% water, chlorine free. It's dirt cheap too. why don't you try that? Hybrid cars, in a world with gas prices reaching almost 6 US dollars per gallon, and oil prices near the $50 a barrel mark, we have to realise that we are using too much, and need to slow down. A hybrid car is the most economic choice. Who fcares about powerful engines? If you live in a city, you don't need one, you'll be stick in grid lock most of the day. Aside from tax incentives and low cost, a hybrid car would save you THOUSANDS of dollars a year. so does public transit. Yearly daily use of public transit expensies is only about 7% what it cost to operate a car yearly. Why do you need a 50' TV, explain without saying it's 'cool and for the experience' and explain why you can't find a good bar/pub or whatever to go to to watch a sporting event there. remember, waste not want not. Waste too much, and there wont be anything left. And the average Canadain lives to 81. If you don't care about the earths future, and plan to die before anything goes wrong without helping, maybe you shouldn't have kids.quote> 1.)By Americans you mean North and South America, right? I mean do you honestly think people in Mexico give a flying fig? Have you ever been to Mexico? Houston is an operating room in comparison to even some of the well-kept touristy parts of Mexico. 2.) Uh, desalination isn't cheap. 3.) Can you drive yet? Horsepower has gotten me out of more than one pickle and kept me out of a whole lot more. Less horsepower is fine in the cities but when 75% of your driving is on the interstate, you might as well be in a go kart. -

Date: 11/4/2004 6:20:59 PM Author: vidioman You need the 50' TV to boast about it, so that the other parts about your life that completely blow chunks are overlooked by other, and you fell better. The big cars compensate for small penises, Americans don't like Pubs because they use them to kill eachother, and they need big houses to fit all the junk they buy but don't need, so they can brag about it. It's all about bragging rights. Sad, really Well, at least we are trying to change.quote> How in the world do you use a pub to kill somebody? -

Pollute our cities with cancer producing filth? WHY NOT! destroy thousands of species of organisms because of reckless human activity? SOUNDS LIKE FUN! Kill our planet and ourselfs? GREAT!!! Cause irraversable damages? Hey, at least a few people are making money off this. I have a witty comment, but I'll spare you It saddens me that a 'modern' country like America cares more about building up it's military and fighting wars then providing a healthy environment for it's own people.. But, as the French say, 'C'est la vie!'quote> That's funny, because I thought Canada was an importer of oil for the US and a supply of the US' uranium, making them a part of the problem the US is creating. This is why Canada can get away with having an impotent military- we'd have to defend you if you were attacked because you're useful in some ways to us. And like I said before, what are you giving up to save the western hemisphere? What are you going to force others to give up? 'Hey, at least a few people are making money off this.' No, at least a lot of people are making their livlihood by being employed by these industries. I don't like the polluting industires any more than you do, but you want change quicker than is possible without pulling an economic rug out from under the American people. quote> Canada has the capacity to create WMDs. We don't need to, since we didn't screw up and make the world hate usl. But if we need to, we can.. We can pollute more than you if we want, but we decided not to. Keep polluting than. Go ahead. It's your country. I don't care if it's polluted or not. Aparently, I'm not allowed toquote> Well you keep telling yourself that. But keep in mind, your Canadian chauvanism is just as attractive as American chauvanism.
