I've been looking for something like this.  I've seen these in LA.  Pegs Canals just don't do the trick.  So I was about to use the ploppable water tool to make all of my drainage canal/ creeks.  The following link is how I know drainage canals in suburban Nor Cal.  http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=37.662251,-121.905638&spn=0.003469,0.006880&t=k&hl=en   The sides are grassy and have an occasion bush or tree.  But look carefully.  Its a 3-way Y intersection.... the canal continues along the freeway, and the creek (between houses and commercial buildings) feeds into it as well.  These also have a path along the top on the house side.  At the end of everyother other court/ cul-du-sac, there is an access point.

Explaining this out sounds like a nightmare to try to create it but I want to make the suggestion.21.gif  Maybe you could release a concrete version for urban areas and something like this for suburban areas....  Keep on creating.  It looks great.

Thanks for the photo. I was thinking of doing something along those lines as well. This is no doubt going to be a very big project, and will be put out in several parts. Thanks for the comments, and keep a lookout for more updates. Currently I am just trying to figure out what all pieces I am going to need, and I am sure there will be a lot of them.

Anyone out there good with Textures, I could use some help in that area.

Yogiya and I are going to be starting a group called the Crescent City Connection (CCC), mostly dedicated to making BATs and LOTs designed around New Orleans Architecture. I will however, also continue my LA River project under RLM Productions. Anyone interested in helping out on either team, feel free to let me know.

The water in the real LA River is not green, but I could be persuaded to do a version like that. Right now I am just working on getting all the pieces I need done.

Very interesting.Yes very intresting indeed....Well I like what I see and I've seen many rivers here in L.A. and the O.C.

Maybe a river peice where its full to the top because that does happen from decade to decade...

    Good luck!44.gif

I think you need depth on the inner river. if it's flat itl spread all over.

    Very cool so far!44.gif

It is a bit hard to see in this picture, but the inner river does sit lower than the outer one. Once I get the basic set done, I may go back and lower it down a bit more.

You asked for help RebaLynnTS, but I've never BATted or even design a lot before.  I don't know how i could help but if you think of something let me know!!!!  (maybe testing 2.gif hehe)  Great progress.
The last photo had all the pieces on a completly level plane. . .  Will you be developing a piece that will handle elevation change????  maybe I'm jumping the gun because you are not even ready with level part but i wanted to throw it out there.

railrod7 - I do plan to do that in the near future.

Also, I thought it would be a good idea to have smaller dithes that feed the big one, so I am also doing these...

I am having so many problems with the diagonal lots, I am going to put them on the back burner for later release. So, when I do release the River BATs/LOTs they will not contain the diagonals at first.

yes very good idea....  With these smaller ditches, is there any terraforming needed or do you plop them on the same level?  (Doesn't look to need terraforming)

RailRod7 - No terraforming is needed for the ditches, or for the stream pieces I am also working on.

The Ditches will be 1 tile wide, the Stream 2 tiles wide (or wider if desired), and the River 4 or more tiles wide, as well as 12 meters deep.

Woah!!!!  31.gif  Thats good looking 16.gif  I really like how there are 3 different ways to connect the smaller ditches to the larger canals system.  They do look a bit stark against the setting.  Why is the liquid (water) red/purple again????  REALLY NICE Job

Having the ditches in a separate file will give people the option to install them when they want, on the other hand some may want them in one DL.30.gif

In the last image, it looks like your end piece and your corner piece textures dont match the straighter pieces, but it could be the shadowing in the game, or ive been awake too long lol. it all looks really good so far though.9.gif

As far as the water color goes, I have never been to LA or seen anything like these in RL so I wouldnt know what it looks like, but maybe a deep aqua/greenish brown or something, I dont know really. If I can be of any help let me know.

The end and corner pieces do use the same textures as the rest, but are streched further, so do not look right. I plan to work on that after I have all the base pieces I made.

I have seen the color of muddy water (having lived through Katrina and Rita) and this looks very close to it.

Wow. the ditch peices really polish this project up!

Just a question, though... Could you make art deco arch bridge peices (both under truss and over truss concrete arches)? The LA river has quite a few of these beauties.

Also the concrete texture looks a little crisp, bright, and new. It needs to look a little distressed. Add the garbage and junked cars to it like previously stated and we have a great lot. 1.gif

i agree with sparky on wearing out the textures, but there is anpther thin you have to do. i noticed that the handrails are taller than a house! maybe making them smaller would make it more realistic. and the water needs to be cleaned! how do you expect Mr. Quackers here, 40.gif, to swim in your great rivers?! clen that water and you got a new resident in your canals!
