Help Install Mods

Hello 

i just downloaded simcity 4 deluxe edition for my mac. Im super excited to begin my new adventure with my city. however Ive been trying to install mods on this games and it seems like Im miss something. I've done research online and it seems pretty simple. download such mod, extract the .data file and drag and drop to sim city 4 plugin in folder. however its not working. Can some one tell me if this is the correct method for a mac user or is this just for PC users

And iirc, the aspyr version has a limit of like 10 total plugins allowed. Take what I say with a grain of salt tho since I'm not a mac user. The experts drop in now and then so you'll prolly get a better reply in a day or so.

Indeed both the PC and MAC versions look in a specific folder (plugins) for any additional content. This content is usually either SC4Lot, SC4Desc, SC4Model or DAT files. Provided those are placed in the correct folder, they should load when the game starts.

However, for a number of reasons, the bulk of the creators/userbase for the game has always been on the PC side of things. The common Windows formats you will have to deal with are .zip/.rar archives, which can be opened with free/OpenSource tools like 7zip. Otherwise, mods may be packaged into .exe installer applications. These formats are not native to Mac's, for example most installers (i.e. those not designed especially for it), will not work on a Mac. FileJuicer is a community favourite for extracting the contents of these installers, but it's not free.

Another potential solution is to run the installer on a Windows computer (assuming you've access to one), then copying across the files after installation. Some creators did make separate "Mac" releases, which excluded any installer application.

10's lowballing things a bit. But yes, there is a limit on the total number of plugins, but you can get round the problem by datpacking them.
