Please HELP! I cannot load my city: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object [System.NullReferenceException]" error!

Upon closing the game, everything was fine. Next time I reopened it, a few hours later, I was bombarded with the following message:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object [System.NullReferenceException]

Details: No details

As soon as I pressed "play", the error would continuously come up, essentially making the game unplayable. I have no idea what is causing this issue; as far as I'm concerned, it never appeared before I saved the city. In any case, here are a couple of logs:

output_log.txt from Cities Skylines itself

Loading log from "Loading Screen Mod"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy. I currently have the Save our Saves mod installed, but it didn't help. I also have Advanced Vehicle options and of course the Loading Screen mod. Nothing helped apart from giving me the above error logs.

Does the game load with both --noWorkshop and --disableMods set in launch options? You might need to test this with a new save file to be sure.

If that's the case, it sounds like some mod you had is no longer compatible with a update of the game, a constant issue that prevents me from enjoying C:S personally.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Thanks for the reply, but I just figured out what was causing it - RICO, of all things! I added a few growables to the list of RICO ploppables, using the "settings" tab and come to think of it, after reloading the game so they'd take effect, the errors began to pour in.

I've since deleted RICO, loaded up the game, and had it working just fine. The American Roads error only pops up once upon loading, so it isn't that big of a deal. It's done that for months now.

I'm working on reinstalling RICO, going through the list of ploppable buildings, and reintroducing the possible suspects, one-by-one. So far though, everything is running well.

RICO is an ACRONYM (Residential, Industrial, Commercial, Office) it is a mod that adds functionality to unique buildings and assets making them ploppable. A large number of modders have created assets that are RICO enabled and are now available in the workshop. You can also add RICO functionality to assets in your own collection- it allows the unique buildings to become "active"- with residents/workers etc added to the mix
