Can anyone explain how to create decals and ground brushes? Like the concrete brushes or the uk roads double yellow lines etc. I know how to import 3D models but after dumping the models and textures of the uk road lines with mod tools, I get a 3d box that appears in the editor as a 3d box with road lines on on each face instead of flat road lines. I'm using 3Ds max. Thanks

Actually it's not that hard at all, I spent a day figuring everything out but once you know how to do it it's easy! I tried to put together some quick instruction from start to end, so here goes:

All you do ist pretty much create a simple box in the 3D program of your choice. That box doesn't have to be a perfect cube, I made the one for my driveway and footpath decals 8mx8mx16m because a box that's too small can make your decal look cut off on the corners. It can of course be smaller in your case, depends on what you're trying to do.

Then you simply uv map your decal on the top face of that box. The textures you use will most likely include an aplha map for transparency, so you can simply make the other sides of the box only show a part of the texture that's transparent so they become invisible.

Then you put the files (you should have at least 3: The fbx file of your box, the _d texture and the _a texture map) in the Cities Sklines import folder, open your game, make sure you have Mod Tools installed and open the asset editor. Import your model as a prop the usual way, make your settings and then hit F7. You can then copy the script from boformer's github which is linked in the topic Judazz mentioned. Paste that script into the console and click "run", you should now see how the appearance of the prop changes and how the texture from the top of your box is now displayed on the ground.

That's pretty much it, jsut save the prop and use it in the Asset Editor or ingame!

I don't know if this is the best way to do it, but it works and I hope I could help you get a step further!

Thanks for this great info. I did realize I can make my own 1x1 decals fairly fast, I just needed that script. Now I just use an existing cube I dumped from mod tools and replace the defuse with what I want, as well as use an alpha mask. I was going to make some large decals for my shipping yard but realized in the thread it's not possible. Hopefully that will be a thing soon. I have no mod experience but I was thinking you could use the model and script ripped from the vanilla large decals like the basketball court and snow decal or maybe even a sub prop enabler. I could probably design my own golf course using large decals:lol:

Anyways, thank you for detailed guide.
