I have a dream that someday we will see a citybuilder using a graphic engine as powerful as GTA V's engine.

I don't know if you saw those vids, some made using a free camera mod :

It blows Skylines out of the water, it kills CXL...

Maybe now that Skylines made a success they will ivest in a better engine for the second one... but for a moment, imagine if those vids could be from a city builder !!!

Ney, my dream is that they keep the isometric view of the SC3000 and SC4, but improve the graphics, introduce non-grid network laying, better traffic simulation and some other improvements. :) Only then we could build the megalopolisies that we deserve. :D

But how can you have curved roads with an isometric view ? That's the problem.

With a better engine (than what Skylines uses) we might get more detailed models (and get very close to SC4's details)

    Why wouldn't that work?

It would work, but wouldn't be perfect (like it does in SC4 now with diagonals unless you use diagonal buildings.)

Maybe it would be better if we had an isometric view but with 8 angles instead of 4 (but it would double the size of every building)

I think it would work just fine if you could have a grid to toggle on or off just to help lay out your city. It wouldn't be a restriction as much as a tool.

The NAM has curved roads, so it is doable. If it would be intregrated in the game, it might more user friendly.

The Cities in Motion games are actually grid based in their heart and as the Cities Skylines is based on these games, I suspect that the Cities Skylines' inner workings are grid based too.

Of course, but the buildings being 3d they can be rotated to fit any curve, with an isometric game with prerendered buildings like sc4 or SC3K you can't

If I was to decide, I'd rather see SC4 graphics with greatly improved gameplay / features than pumped up graphics which are payed for by less core mechanics and higher limitations.
i.e. I'd take 8x8 km 16x16 km or even a regionwide citytile anytime over an - admittedly good looking - RAGE-Engine city builder with 2x2 km limit
