How to get rid of lag?

Hi,

So I just downloaded Cities: Skylines with a key I bought on a website and Steam accepted the key and that's all good.

The game loads to the homescreen, and I selected a map where I would build, but when I want to load the map it first of all takes like 10 minutes to load it. And when it's finally loaded it is insanely laggy, which makes it unplayable. The mouse moves properly, but when I try to build roads for example it takes a couple of seconds before it is actually built, after I've clicked to build it. So how can I fix this and make it work properly?

I don't have a fancy gaming PC, just an Asus EEbox or something (something that "sticks" to the back of my monitor.

Also, I've tried to start the game three times so far, and the last 2 times, I've closed every program on my PC.

How can I fix this?! :s

Honestly, based on what kind of PC you have I'd suggest it's a miracle you even got the game to run.

Depending on which version you've got, chances are your system is running on a single-core Atom processor with 2GB of RAM and a bargain bin videocard. Here's what's minimum and recommended wrt system specs.

Those EE boxes are for surfing web only.  They don't have enough power to run 3D games.

Computer upgrade is the only option to playing this game.  It is just too far under spec to even play at all.

ps, you should be able to get a refund from steam if you bought it from steam.

@Koesj@rmjohnson144 It gets better when I set the graphics to medium or low. Do you know other settings that should be really low to make it more playable?

Lower screen resolution, and all other graphics options to off or their lowest settings.
