Diagonal Bridge Not Working

Hi, I got a short bridge to work, but I want 3 more diagonal bridges to work. Using buggi's terrain measuring tool, both sides of the river are at 340m, so both sides are level. Does the landing abutement area need to be clean (45 degrees) on both sides? Does it matter what's below the water? In this case its a steep valley forming a river. Thanks in advance.

For the dual-tile networks, such as Avenue or Maxis Highway, you actually need to use the base RHW network in order to build the diagonal bridges for those networks.  There's some quirks with the normal diagonals on Avenues and Maxis Highways that prevented them from being suitable for DBE usage, so that workaround was necessary.

I'm not sure the DBE works with MHW, actually. Try it with an avenue.

MHW (inc MHO with my patch) are both supported by DBE.

well, that just fouled up that whole city. Time to start anew....

I'm not sure what you've done that could end so drastically. If you make a mistake terraforming, it's best to exit the city without saving and try again. DBE is a tricky beast sometimes and the edges of your bridges are the hardest part to get right. You also need to build in a very specific order to get them working properly.

    What's the specific order?

Here's another shot of what I'm trying to do, I'm hoping I can get all these bridges across from tallest to shortest, saving and rebuilding again and again, but the first part, the right, is the three diagonals (Maxis Freeway, Rail, and Avenue) and from what I'm being told I can't get them diagonally because the Maxis double wide road pieces don't cooperate or something. The rail isn't even working either, so, I'm not sure yet, I've been trying to see if I can build an elevated NAM highway but I'm having trouble getting 6 lanes up in the air.

I think you may have misunderstood. Both the Highway and Avenue are two tile networks. Thus you can't draw them out with the avenue or the highway tools due to the problem stated. You must instead use the RHW tool to create a shared-tile diagonal setup. This means that the two RHW diagonals will overlap on a single tile. Note that Rail and Road bridges can be drawn with their respective tools as usual.

Before beginning you really should ensure the following conditions have been met:

    • Make sure you've read thoroughly the documentation that comes with the DBE, a lot of what you are asking is covered there.
    • Secondly, ensure you've installed the RHW-2 network for the NAM. Without RHW-2, you can not drag RHW to create the bridges.
    • Thirdly, ensure that no slope mods are present in your plugins when you use the DBE, they will mess with it causing problems.

The shared-tile diagonal setup looks like this:

    SharedTileDBE_zpsf7a10a4c.jpg~original

First create step 1, if you can't drag your RHW then the land is not flat. Bear in mind you can't use road, rail or RHW with the DBE installed to flatten land as it is set to 0 slope by the mod. I find using street tiles help to get any last second terraforming accomplished but ideally you should prep this before running the DBE.

If you still can't plop one of the starters, then try removing the end pieces to create step 2. One of these configurations should allow you get the starter in place correctly.

General instructions for building a diagonal bridge.

    1. Ensure you drag the entire bridge out before placing any starter pieces.
    2. Then place a starter on one side of the bridge only.
    3. Click every few tiles from the starter to initiate the override (T21s) until the entire bridge looks correct.
    4. Only when step three is satisfied, place the remaining starter.

Ok, so I do need to use NAM highways.

    I have draggable NAM highways.

Both sides are even at 340.

Do I need something besides the NAM DBE or will the NAM 31 DBE work by itself?

Yes I remove the Slope Mod 1 and swap it with the NAM DBE when doing this.

Will this work with elevated NAM Highway draggables?

If by NAM highways you mean RHW-2, yes.

Saying both sides are even does not mean they are, you'd be surprised how things change when you are building. You need to prep everything then adjust as required along the way.

The only pre-requisites for the DBE are having the NAM installed, additionally for the Avenue and Ground Highway bridges you must have RHW-2 installed. Elevated highways are not supported, but you could easily transition to them from a raised embankment either side of the bridge.
