Installing SC4 Tools for the Electronic Version of SC4

Does anybody know if there are any issues with installing SC4 Tools for the electronic (Steam/Origin) version of the game? More specifically:

- Lot Editor (normally there should not)

- Plugin Manager (as above). Btw, does anyone know whether I should install the unicode version or the non-unicode one (and where to get if from)?

- BAT There is a patch known as SC4 Update for BAT. This was intended for the SC4+RH (Deluxe?) CD version 638, and upgraded Simcity to version 640. However the  electronic version is already 641, so I guess this update is not needed (and should NOT be installed). So I just install BAT (for Gmax)?

- iLives Reader installed it but I;m having troubles. The documents pane (at the left) has a black, instead of a blue background, and one of files in the Recent File List is always blank, although it actually contains an entry, and when I select it the file opens normally. This may be due to the OS version I'm using (Win8.1 32-bit Pro), or the lacking of the exact version of some MFC dll (it may "successfully" use some newer version already in my system, but the implementation it contains can be somewhat different). Anyone else having the same problem?

Any help would be highly appreciated

Lot Editor, Plugin Manager and SC4 BAT all work just fine, you might run into a couple issues. Digital versions don't always come with the LE/PIM as part of the installer, so you need to find them elsewhere.

Sometimes the installer for SC4 BAT can't see digital installations, I'd seriously caution you against the Origin version since I believe you can have serious problems. It's something to do with the way Origin messes with the original .exe and thus the check-sum will always fail if I recall correctly. I think Steam is fine, but they messed with the .exe too I believe.

In that sense, you are safer with a DRM-Free versions such as those from GoG or Amazon. You are quite correct the 641 version requires no patching for EP1 or the Nitelight (640) patch either.

Not sure about your issue with the reader. To my knowledge it runs fine on Win 8, Win 10 too for that matter. I'd guess you need one of the library files updated. Are you using the old 0.9.3 reader or the newer 1.5 releases?

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
