I was wondering if anyone could show me or explain to me how they start there freeways? mine always start at the edge of the tile with a connector to the next tile but I would like to start one in the middle but cant seem to think of a realistic way of doing so.

Mine usually develop from avenues, like it is in many older cities that don't have inner city highways. You can then add more lanes by getting some ramps come in from other directions.

T-interchange into an avenue.  Most in real life don't end because there's nothing more annoying that cruising along and suddenly seeing that "Freeway Ends" sign and then you're crawling through downtown at 0.5 mph.  They are designed to be continuous loops.

Or just a transition into an avenue like Turjan said.

You can always use large surface networks like those provided in the NWM and eventually start developing freeways in needed corridors. It requires bulldozing  and a lot of troubleshooting building networks in existing cities but it's how they do it in RL

Generally speaking, I avoid having freeways crossing cities with ramps for getting on and off because they are expensive in both funds and real estate.  I transition to avenues or NWM roads.  However, if you must, then be prepared for an urban renewal project with much expropriation of existing lots.

What it amounts to is clearing the space for your freeway, building it with ramps to connect to existing networks, then redeveloping any left over land.  If you examine real life cities, that's the way it is done.

I do use highways for long hauls between cities, and in areas were there is no urban development.  Running over a few farms is usually cheaper than losing several taxable buildings in a city.

Yup, I hate it in real life. It was the case where I grew up, because the freeway just started in the small town where I grew up, while the direction into the city slowed down to a 50-60 kph crawl. Or when I drive from Vienna to the Bodensee area, where you have to take the inner city ring (a normal avenue) through Munich or drive a huge detour three quarters of a wide circle around the north of the city.

However, in SC4, I like to watch those traffic jams in these situations. The Sims don't complain :D. And the accidents look funny. It's also good for business.

Well, there are multiple ways to end a motorway:

1. Let it end on a T-interchange on another motorway.

2. Transit it into an avenue:

3. Just cease continuing the motorway. There are quite some examples of that, often indicating bigger ramps:
