Accidentally reset the tutorials--how did it happen?

I'm not going to cry about it (much :( ), but I accidentally reset the tutorials and I want to know why it happened.

Basically, what I did was, I loaded the Fairview region into SC4 Mapper so I could reconfigure it (i.e. make 2 big cities and the rest medium, instead of the default medium/small). I created my new region folder "Fairview 2" and loaded it in the game. It works great. The old Fairview is still there, the way I left it.

Only problem is, I loaded Timbuktu right after that and all the tutorials had been reset! One of them was a city I had worked on for months, so I'm pretty bummed about that. Yes, I know I should've made a back-up of some sort.

So how did that happen? :(

Seems to happen occasionally.  This is why I recommend never playing on the tutorial region (Timbuktu).  You really wouldn't want to live in Mali anyway.

Lol, well I've already developed Timbuktu quite a bit--all the other cities are intact, but the tutorial ones are gone. Maybe it's time I do more with another region.

[self promotion time] There are several good regions standing in my name on the STEX all of which render using the game renderer.

Indeed agree with A Nonny. Aside from his maps, there are also some good one too either by Blunder or NHP. :)

Unfortunately the tutorial cities do seem prone to issues like this.

If you're on Windows 7 or 8 (or 8.1), you might be able to recover your region from an automatic checkpoint. Windows 7 has the Previous Versions feature, which saves files from restore points. Windows 8 changed this somewhat, and it's now called File History.

Here's a screenshot from my Timbuktu region (after selecting the folder's properties):

I've set a checkpoint to be created each Monday at 6pm, or at the first opportunity thereafter. Any other restore points are done manually, and with backups, I tend to sync files to an external HDD.

It might be worth a shot. If you're able to recover it, the city could always be imported into a new region, such as a custom map. This will work as long as the city is the same size (small, medium, large) as the tile being overwritten.

^Good idea. Unfortunately I didn't have File History configured, so the city I lost is definitely gone for good, but I'll set that up so this doesn't happen again -_-
