App Store SC4 - is it updated with all patches

Newbie to the site.

There is a massive amount of information to take in. 

 

My basic question is the App Store version of SC4 Deluxe I just purchased this week up to date concerning patches? I know I need to get the NAM and will do, but is there anything else essential to make the game optimally updated?

Nope.  It is ready to go.  Just read the other posts about installing plug-ins, it gets a bit tricky with the AppStore version, vs the Steam version.

Thanks. Yes, kind of regret buying the App store version now, but it seems people have most problem with finding the correct folder to place the plugins, but that isn't a problem for me.

Hi all.  I just downloaded the App version and I'm trying get the NAM 32.1 mod but I'm running into a problem.  Every time I try to download the mod there's a popup saying that I need to download Genieo.  I've had some experience with Genieo in the past at it seems like some sort of virus so I always click cancel and then the mod doesn't download.  Anyone have any advice?

There shouldn't be a problem with this download. I had the AppStore version and without an internet connection and NAM installed it crashed to desktop all the time. So with the AppStore version you might need to be online at the same time too.

The GenieO popup is part of the advertising scheme that Simtropolis uses when linking to Sc4Devotion. After 5 seconds, a Skip Ad button should appear on the upper right for you to click.

What about night lights? Do those work now?

No I am afraid. Any downloaded BATs will not display their lights on the Mac (App store or Steam or any version)

This is one thing that cannot be done and seemingly never will be fixed. So no night lights on all those awesome BATs for us Mac users. Only maxis originals.

Why not? Has anyone requested it from Maxis/Aspyr?

All sorts of people have requested patches to match up the Mac version with the Windows version.  The NAM Team talked with Aspyr when the re-release occurred, about getting an EP1 Update 1/Version 1.1.638 patch in place, as exists for the Windows version (and is a NAM prerequisite).  They said that they would need to work with EA Maxis and get source code again to do so, and that they had no plans or interest in that.  Getting the 1.1.640 nightlight patch would be even more work for them.  I suspect that for the $20 MSRP, they thought it wasn't worth the investment.  We wound up having to fudge our own partial patch into the NAM Mac release to make up for it.

Yes, it is fantastic that you got the windows version going but the Mac just isn't that interesting for Maxis/Aspyr. 

It really does (among a few other things), make us Mac users want to switch to PC or run Linux. The Mac version is great, there are many BATs and downloads that work still, but many do not.

Don't forget you can always run Windows with your Mac's built-in Boot Camp utility.

Yeah, but that's a chore to have to maintain two OSes. I really wish Aspyr would just get those patches in.

If you take into account that the own EA released for sale in Origin an outdated version until Tarkus became this a public fact  and forced your  correction imagine then what is the interest Aspyr in a new  agreement (costs) to integrate it to the rights of tolls already contracted previously.

 

The interest was only in sales linked to the launch of SC 13, since  make investments in a game with twelve years old now, certainly not in anyone's interest except fans and you can be sure of that.
