Created Some Custom Lots... with Used Material.

So, I created some custom lots with the material found in simcity 4 dat and bldgprops_1 and bldgprops_2 with SC4 PIM-X

The problem is, I still get a "reset to default" issue when I edit the Exemplar files in iLives Viewer.

I'm trying to make the Range that the civic buildings cover larger. I started the Lots out with Blank, and I can upload the completed versions if you want... it's much improved over the over-abused Sim City 4 Official Website Plug-Ins.

I can't really use these to my advantage due to the fact that the plug-ins are small in coverage range and keep reseting when I edit them, then go to the game.

Any take on this?

If you want, I have already created lots using the Maxis buildings for the schools and hospitals with a larger coverage radius, that I can share with you.  (I suppose I could just post them on the STEX).  I haven't messed with the police and firehouse yet.   I always found it annoying that the coverage of the civic buildings were so small that it took an unrealistic amount of the buildings to provide the service to your city. I mean, come on, how many high schools does it take to cover a 4x4mile area.

Not directly relevant to the question, but many people use the mod for all Maxis civics. Of course, that plugin just concerns the standard lots, but it works, so it might be good to take a glimpse at.

For schools and hospitals, I mostly use custom content anyway, which is the main reason I never touched those lots.

For the custom lots, what does "resetting" mean? You do demolish and replace the old lots in your game, right?

If the figures you changed in the Reader are the same the next time you open the file there, then you are not saving the file, or you are saving it somewhere else. Otherwise, if they are still modified, then you probably need to do what is mentioned above.

I am inclined to believe you haven't saved the modified lots correctly.  They should go into your Plugins folder where they should override the Maxis lots which load first.  If you subsequently want to work on them, then you need to retrieve them from the Plugins folder.

In the first instance you should be using the 'Save As' function to access the Plugins folder.  And, do check your permissions on those files.  You can't change something without write permission.

How exactly did you change the files' coverage radius?

I used the lot editor (not the PIMX version) found the building I wanted and then saved the lot with out making any changes to it.  I then used iLive's Reader to open the lot and changed the value "Coverage Radius" to a larger value.  The coverage radius value is in meters. For example the process I did for the high school is a follows:

    1) Open the lot editor and find the Maxis High school

    2) Save a copy of the lot without making any changes to the lot to your plugin folder.

    3) Open the saved lot in iLive's Reader.

    4) With the Reader, open the exemplar file and change the "School Coverage Radius" to 2896 (note that this radius will cover a large city tile). Both apply buttons must be pressed in the dialog box after making the change.

    5) Save the lot from the Reader.

    6) Start SC4 and you should see an additional high school in the education menu that will have your new, larger radius.

In addition I added two LTEXT files to the lot for additional description to distinguish it from the original Maxis Lot.

If you need any further clarification, let me know. Good luck!!
