Hello, everyone,

I first played SimCity 3000, on Linux,  the LokiGames issue, ages ago.  Since I never seemed to find the way to create a town that did not go bankrupt, I stopped playing soon after, but the attraction never left.

Some years ago I bought SimCity 4 and Rush Hour on Amazon, but couldn't get it to run more or less stable in Wine, so again I left it alone.  Now a month or so ago, I retried, and managed to install both SC4 CDs and Rush Hour successfully, and after reading up on strategy, finally managed to start viable cities.  Mainly by largely ignoring the cries from my citizens.

Of course my attention did get drawn towards the various mods that are out there, especially since I could not seem to find a way to alleviate traffic problems.  So I applied the 638 patch, SC4 BAT and the SC4UpdateBAT patch, and I installed LRM 4.0 and NAM 3.2.  To free up my DVD drive I installed the Rush Hour 1.1.640 NOCD patch.  Also SC4Launcher R8, as that managed to run me at 1600x1024.

Both LRM and NAM claim _not_ to have any dependencies, yet this is the result (see below) in the residencies areas there are only houses with what appear to be dependency problems?  Yet I can not for the life of me find out what Mod I'm missing or which one I should uninstall or update.

Yes, I am a total $%&^! when it comes to SimCity, and somehow I have no clues left anymore, either.  And Wine/SimCity say nothing:

So: "Hi", and "Help?!?",

Kind regards,

Stefan.

The reason for this is the nocd patch.

There is no support when you still have it installed. You should also check your PC for malware, you might have caught a well hidden piece of malicous code when you searched for this patch.

There are other ways to get  a version of SC4 which doesn't need a disc. You can buy it on steam for example.

Discussing that patch is a no-no on this site.

The best solution for all this is to get rid of the CDs altogether and repurchase the game from an on-line vendor.  You should get build version 1,1,641,0 which is fully patched and diskless.  If you get it from Origin or Steam they will stick a DRM plug in it.  Others don't do that because this is not a DRM game.

Well I would personally argue that I shouldn't have to buy a game again just to play it without the disk. I made the effort to pay EA once, twice just seems unreasonable, but each to their own I guess.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

You have the choice of purchasing virtual CD software at some price perhaps higher than a new digital copy of the game, or the digital copy of the game and having to deal with only one piece of software.  Both of these are solved by contributing money to some vendor.  Last weekend one of the vendors had the digital download for Sc4 on sale for $7.99 which is a considerable discount.

I purchased a second copy at full price because my CDs died after about 10 years of abuse.  And for some time, I did use the virtual CD method but when I changed systems it was back to the CDs.  I also reinstall the game frequently now because it is necessary each time I make a new windows environment (wine prefix) to run with my Linux system.  Currently have have three wine prefixes, each with their own load of the game.  I could use links and save all this, but it is just easier to point to the installer and suck the game up again.  Takes less than five minutes.

I am sure people have noticed that CDs are anything but archival.  The faintest scratch on the foil substrate destroys the disk.
