Hello everybody! Thanks to our friend Vladimir (Vlasky) we now have our own subforum. I would like to invite anyone in here to comment and share whatever you guys want to... its open for everybody.. and of course its meant to inspire our team.

I believe a City Journal should appear in some time as this should be release for everybody, but it is nice to have a little group first to have the first impressions, and to get a nice start off!!

I invite everyone to post in here their own version of NYC... be honest, we all in here have one!!

Without any further ado.. I welcome you all...

Btw, Matt feel free to make an intro in your first post too! I didnt want to make the whole story again of what we are doing and stuff.. just let the pics talk.. but if you feel like typing all of it... LOL GO ON!

Hey! Im sorry it took so long =P

Here is the picture I promised... of course the new city Im working on is not as developed in terms of roads as this one, but it is on its way to!!

I should be available to continue (or restart, depending on the situation), work on NYC from about Wednesday onwards.

How is your new NYC coming along? Any pictures? Since you are using a new map and different config, I'd be interested to see how it looks like. Oh and starting again does not sound like fun for me at all.

Well... to be honest, I did the measurements some weeks ago, and since Im having a little time to play, I recently got it started. I have basically layed down the east side and some midtown, but I guess I can make some progress today too!

On the other hand, Ive been working on my Philly region, and started Chicago... you can check over at the thread I created with the tutorials and the toll thing!!

Okay so I'm back to working on recreating NYC with cmdp here. A lot of work to do before I get anything worth really posting though.

Maybe so. There have been NYC recreations in the past though. Personally, NYC was not my first choice (as a Brit, London or Manchester would have been first choice), but NYC is quite nice to build.

This project is awesome.. we work together... we had some real nice progress... but we had to stop and look for a solution, which I believe we have found, right Matt?

Anyways... this is just starting, and there arent many pictures to really show, and we both are building separately and together at the same time, so expect some variety.

Btw Matt, i think I need to PM you with a list of things that we need to do before we actually start.

Fair enough. I'm still working on placing buildings and roads from the parts of the cities you sent me. Much to do still, I'll continue tomorrow. I'm nearly finished with the Avenues and 6 lane roads, I dread the thought of 100 OWR rebuilds, I might just leave them as is and do it later.

One thing I'd like to ask though. Whilst Downtown and the Financial District is not for awhile, when we get to it, I was planning on building the WTC as it would be planned for 2020 completion, and not as it is now, with it under construction. As in, I'd use the new planned "futuristic" buildings, rather than the construction site BATs I have seen around. Though what are your thoughts about this?

Wow guys, you really are going big.

If you don't mind, share your plans with the rest of us. What can we expect? Placing similar buildings and filling out the entire Manhattan or just placing already recreated BATs?

Oh and what is the actual difference between this map and the previous one? They look the same to me. You say it's stretched, but I don't see where or how? I guess the "stretch" really is unnoticeable.

Vlasky, yeah we are going big. Though my original intention was just to build Manhattan, I reckon if/once that gets finished, Brooklyn or Queens will be next, and then maybe Jersey City parts of New Jersey? Who knows, it depends how much time and effort we spend. The map is huge, and so is NYC. It's a huge project that I doubt will ever be truly finished.

I still yearn for the day though that a British city be recreated accurately though.

I like the WTC idea... Even though the BAT available is not 100% accurate, we can live with it. Now, as I said, you can barely notice the difference, but if you pay close attention, you will notice that all the horizontal avenues now fit with the 2 tiled concept, and we have enough space to place all the roads, that previously wasn't possible at all.

Also, this will give us a great advantage in terms of sunken highways in Brooklyn and queens... Which was really hard on our last attempt...

I would say we are set to a big start!

Vlasky: we are currently placing the BATs available in the stex, and basically laying down the "bones" such as roads, avenues, subways... That kinda stuff. Then, we will proceed to the location of buildings, and we end it by zoning.

Now, from that point is where it will get really interesting, since, you will see a clear difference because of the selection of buIldings for our recreations!!

So recently I've been placing as many BATs as I can into the city (nearly all are in Midtown as you might expect, from 38th to 61st Street). I've now got all the 2 tile roads and Avenues changed to NAM roads, I've added in a few 1 tile wide Maxis roads, there's still the West side to add though, I'll make those Maxis roads for now. That would then mean I'd need to make a few less than 100 maxis roads into OWRs (not a fun prospect). And I also edited the lengths of certain Avenues, eg 9th now ends at 16th Street not 14th, and 10th and 15th not 14th, Lexington at 21st at Gramercy Park (I made the OWRs around Gramercy Park though). No pictures yet though, though there is not really much to see at the moment.

I'm still annoyed though that the fountain BAT at Central Park near 5th does not work for me. I get a fountain on a blank lot and not on a detailed lot as it should be. Any ideas as to what might be the problem?

So... here it is so far. I still have a huge amount to do of course.

Also, it's entirely possible Rockefeller is in the wrong place, since I don't know which building was BATted so I don't actually know where it is meant to be placed.

Well you did something haha.. You gotta admit, that even though the tiles were all maxis roads, it would've take you so much time to measure and do everything from scratch :P

Yes, the Rockefeller is wrong, cause that is not actually the Rockefeller you mean to put there...

I'm almost done replacing the roads to owr.. So I can send you everything again if you don't want to do the 100 roads :P we are here to share :)

Now, you guys gotta admit this would look so much better if vlasky ehm ehm would finish the Empire State Building for us :P

I haven't post anything on this thread, but when I saw your fantastic work for re-create the real NYC, I can't say anything else: we have an infinity of buildings that need to be modelised :D

    Great pictures so far :thumb:b:

Yes, we do indeed still need a huge amount of BATs for NYC and for Manhattan. For instance, a proper Grand Central Station and MetLife building would be needed, as would the Empire State Building, AMNH, NY Public Librarey, Lincoln Centre etc etc.

And there's no need to do that Chris. I'll do it myself thanks. It'll save me having to rebuild all the BATs in the correct places.

The only real difference I've noticed in the map so far has been the fact that the roads are now 2 tiles wide as they should be, which is great. Other than that I've not noticed anything, yet.

    Well... hello!

Im sorry to double post, but I have an interesting update for you guys...

So, I told you earlier that I had everything in the Midtown area almost ready, but I totally forgot of the docks... so, I worked on them to give them the exact sizes and the precise location based on the road lineup. It wasnt easy.. and to be honest took me quite a while =P

    So...

    PiersConstruction2_zps8ba3bf59.jpg

That is a general view of the area as a work in progress of course. I used the setsealevel cheat to be able to work as accurate as possible...

    A zoomed version...

    PiersConstruction1_zpsdab0bcce.jpg

Everything was carefully measured, and is as accurate as possible.. of course its only the "land" that will support the docks, parkings and everything that goes on top..

An of course, the final result, which Im happy with...

    PiersConstruction3_zpsbd01fc6a.jpg

All of this was done on my previous region, which was a CJ in here, but had to drop it because of RL stuff...

Now that Im back with some time, I can go on and work again on my region, which of course was restarted because of a new map (only Matt and me have it). Originally I started the region some days ago, so in order to get Matt quickly updated into the new region I sent him the city tiles with the basic roads (used as guides) and he is now replacing them with the correct owr and avenues... and of course Im doing the same thing...

We are both workin as mentioned before separately and together at the same time.. we both have our own recreation, but we share, compare, and help each other with almost everything.

I really hope this turns out good, and at some point inspires the team to get back on its feet again... I REALLY WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE EMPIRE STATE BLDG FROM VLASKY IN HERE lol!!!

PS: Matt could you be kind and show a picture of your current docks area? just for comparison of the original map, and how the worked up area look like..

lol There will be ESB from me there, just not yet. But don't you worry, I'm not sitting around doing nothing, I'm working hard behind the scenes, and I'm sure you will like it when there is something to show.

To be honest, I'm not sure about two way street being double tile. I think I've measured them at some point and they were not wide enough to be 2 tiles, so I always used 1 tile 4 lane NWM.

I like that you're doing this so meticulously that you're reworking and aligning docks. It's something I've always wanted. SC4 adjusted NYC map. Maybe you two can publish your map when you rework and refit everything. :)

You guys really got me in the mood to play with my recreation, but I'm a more successful builder than payer :P

So, I got the OWRs facing correct directions from 59th to 87th inclusive on the West Side. I also replaced Rockefeller, it now rests in the (hopefully) correct place. Also, I'm not sure if this is correct, but where the ANHM lies between 77th and 81st there are 18 squares. Is that correct or should it be 19? If it's 19, I've made a mistake somewhere, though not sure where.

Oh and I wish I could BAT, but no doubt it'd not create a good product. I would if I could but I imagine getting to a decent enough standard would take ages.

Wait, do I have to start again to get these new fangled docks, or are you going to teach me how to do them? I'm not starting again again, again.

Vlasky: that's great news... And yes, once we get stuff done and decent, we will publish our work.. Right Matt? You know, I want to see some updates on your recreation too!!! Btw, some of those avenues sometimes are not 100% two tiled in simcity... But, when I measured the roads, they are bigger than 16.. Most of them around 29 meters... Which in simcity terms means 2 tiles lol! See I used to do what you do.. Mave4... But it was not completely accurate... So I went on and did some calculations... ( believe me, we discussed this with Matt a lot.. Like a LOT!) so I got in contact with izidor44.. You know, the original creator... And well... After a request, and permission to modify.. And you know all the stuff... I ended up having a stretched version of the map... But it is mathematically stretched in a way that is impossible to notice yet, it has enough space to fit double tiled avenues :)

Matt: I'm afraid you need to start again.. :( JUST KIDDING!! Lol of course I will teach you how to do it.. It's really easy actually, but it takes time to get it accurate... You know, measure google earth.. Then simcity.. Then.. Well you know the whole process :P

So, minor update for today. Minor, but I'm proud of it at least. The West Side now has correct OWRs and 2 tile roads, including the little 2 tile, 4 lane road running between 8th and 9th Avenues. Tomorrow, I'll try and do the East Side from 59th to 110th, when/if I can.

Huge update for today. I started at 58th on the East Side, and just sort of went with it. Literally I have worked all day on this, so whilst there may be errors, I'm pretty proud of this. 68 streets made (I think), plus a few Avenues, into correct OWRs. There's a few errors intentionally because I don't have reference points (Avenues that just sort of appear), but I can rework on them later (e.g. 113th and 114th don't exist in my recreation much, but that's due to lack of reference points). Hope you enjoy, pictures to follow soon.

    As promised:

Oh you mean you did all the roads from 58th into owr3 and transformed all the avenues into NWM 5 lanes? So... you mean like this?

    OWRproject1_zpsaf80a54a.jpg

    And a closeup..

    OWRproject2_zps80d830a4.jpg

And trust me... it does take a lot of time!!
