"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

Nothing like good ol' E3 to make me hate video games.

I've been a PlayStation owner since the first one. So far, I've seen no reason to get a PS4. I still see no reason to get one. I get the feeling that, for the most part, Sony and MS have entirely abandoned everyone outside of the mainstream gamer market. I haven't the slightest interest in AssCreed, FarCry, Call of Duty, Bioshock, etc, etc, etc. Even the reliable stalwart, Final Fantasy, has taken a nosedive as far as my interest is concerned. Squeenix has really gone off the rails in the last five years. Once upon a time, I would shiver with glee at the mere mention of anything new by Square, Enix, or the combined Squeenix. Not anymore. No more Dragon Quest. No more Chrono. All they are is Final Fantasy: Emo Twatfest.

I'm probably going to get a Wii U. It's the only one that I find interesting.

I am seriously hoping that "Amibo" will be something I can ignore and not have it really change anything. If that sort of peripheral fluff becomes a key component of the new Smash Bros. game, it will ruin it.

Also, Pac-Man is a playable character in the game? Yeah, that's just goofy, because Pac-Man rendered in any higher definition than a yellow wheel of cheese with a wedge cut out of it is goofy.

I remember playing the 3D Pac-Man game for, what was it, Gamecube? a decade or so ago. It was indeed goofy. I can't see this being any different.

On the other hand, there being a Pac-Man battle stage is totally rad!

I just did a search on "Amibo," but found nothing video-game related. What is it?

So far, I've only seen one game out of it I would like to play. And agreed on the Sony PS. I see no need to upgrade my PS3 to be honest. The game selection just isn't what I want to play.

Sadly, I think all the outside the box thinking is going into the mobile field.

That's because... it looks like I misspelled it. It should be "Amiibo", two Is. Which makes more sense to me now that I'm more awake than when I made my previous post. :P

Page about it is here.

Basically it looks like you can buy these little figurines (real world figurines, with real money) that will enhance the performance of the character associated with them when you hold them over the Wii U game pad. Or something like that. The article is vague.

From the way it's written, I'm wagering on Amiibo being an entirely optional gimmick device. It very much appears to be a supplement to the game, rather than an essential part.

But... Every game console maker out there has its weak spot.

Nintendo: Gimmicks

Sony: Hubris

Microsoft: Stupidity  (Seriously, who at MS thought an "I'm watching you 24/7" Kinect was a good idea? That just screams creepy.)

Ugh, Disney even turned Pac-Man into a tv star with some incredibly {Language - Zel} animated tv series. Oh Disney XD, how you ruin kids television.

And Amiibo just looks like Skylanders only for Nintendo. Whatever....

So far the E3 has been good for some nice cinematic trailers, but honestly nothing that gets me going wild. I'm glad we get a new Mass Effect, but its to early to say anything about it. I'm indifferent about Far Cry, given how its a fundamentally broken game. FPS and open world roaming does not mix well. The trailer for the new Rainbow Six looked nice, but again, it was a trailer, thats not how people will play it in real life, multiplayer doesn't work like that. Also, the Rainbow Six Patriot game looked way more interesting, but they seem to have dropped that completely.

Oh, No Man's Sky looks very cool. And yay, Mirrors Edge 2!

That's the problem with E3: cinematic trailers. That tells us nothing about the gameplay. Of course, cinematic trailers look pretty, but that's all they have to do. Gameplay trailers are what I want to see.

The trailers I've seen for Super Smash Bros. have featured gameplay, albeit mostly short clips of it.

What is an example of a "cinematic trailer" which doesn't feature gameplay?

Mass Effect, The Division are two that spring to mind. I forgot about the rest. Did the AC trailer contain gameplay?

I'm not that into E3 because a) I don't really want to spend the time watching it on TV or online and b) most of the games don't interest me. However, I did watch Nintendo's digital event, which I enjoyed. It was much more entertaining than watching someone talk on stage. I'm looking forward to the new Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and the new open-world Zelda game for the Wii U. The rest - meh.

I feel the same about Amiibo. There doesn't seem to be much of a point to the concept, except to give you help in battle. Fortunately, I don't think I really have to worry about it, because I don't play online with other people. The only other pereple I'd play with would be my friend or my family, and none of them plan on buying the game or the Amiibo stuff that goes with it.

I have mixed feelings about Pac-Man. I like that they're branching out with the characters and adding new ones, but I don't know if Pac-Man was really the right choice. It just seems... odd.

Actually that's not true.

Amiibo is currently compatible with Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros (both versions), Mario Party 10 and a few other games for this year.

In the case for Smash Bros, it lets you store your customized character on it much like a memory card.

It also gives you a special CPU to fight as well in Smash.

They are all supposed to be cross compatible with supporting games.

They are supposed to cost between $10-$15 and are made of high quality.

Essentially Amiibo is PLC (Physically Load Content) instead of DLC.

This is better than all those special edition memory cards the companies used to release that came loaded with special content.

Though we all should be excited that Nintendo had Platinum port Bayonetta 1 to Wii U which is given away for free with each purchase of Bayonetta 2 (exclusive to Wii U) this Fall.

Bayonetta 1 has updated graphics and exclusive content.

Now let's talk about how Captain Toad finally got his own damn game!

As expected, Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation did his review of E3. (Look him up, can't link him on this site.  :))

For a conference that's basically a weekend-long commercial, he seems to be the only journalist who doesn't get worked up over it. I like watching his humorous take on it.  :)

I found his review of Watch_Dogs amusing, he was really spot on with that one.

I'm not really sure what you mean about outside the mainstream games, problem with any non popular games is that you never can find anyone in the lobbies unless you just add people from your friends list.

Like Sniper Elite looks good but it isn't getting a lot of attention, really looking forward to Driveclub and the Crew as I'm a big fan of racing.
