Overstated transit usage numbers

Hi,

When I looked at the numbers for my stations, it seems the numbers are higher than when I query the stretch of track leading into the station. I have noticed this on my heavy rail, monorail, and glr stations. I have also noticed something that may cause this problem. It seems that sims are getting on and getting off at the same station. They are using the station but not really using it to get on a train. Is there a fix to this problem? I am currently using a downloaded copy of the game and have NAM 32 installed.

Thanks,

Short answer: Unfortunately not, that's just how the game is.

Long answer: Yes, but only if you relocate the stations onto spurs off from the main line. It looks incredibly unrealistic and is probably not something you want to do unless you don't care about that.

Station with through-running netwoers (eg train stations with through tracks) do suffer from this, ie add the through traffic to usage. That is the "Usage" reported includes both the through traffic and the actual usage. Badly modded stations may be reporting even higher usage. All transit type switchings must be possible to be carried-out in two steps, and not more. Examples:

A. Pedestrian Riding a Train

1. Outside-to-Inside, ped->ped

2. Inside-to-outside. ped->rail

B. Driving to the station and Riding a Train (park-and-ride)

1. Outside-to-Inside, car->ped

2. Inside-to-outside. ped->rail

C. Alighting the Train and Riding the Bus (hub)

1. Outside-to-Inside, rail->ped

2. Inside-to-outside. ped->bus

Some creators just take all switchings from the Maxis stations and put them together, which is not always OK.

Another cause can be pedestrians shortcuttng through the station. Especially happens if the station lot is large and the Transit Switch Cost property (time) is low or zero. Then pedestrians will be shortcutting through the station (utilizing the Outside-to-Inside_ped->ped and Inside-to-outside_ped->ped switches). A proper setting of the Transit Switch Cost property can reduce this effect a lot, or even eliminate it, whithout affecting the station's usage significantly (a high value can even draw it unusable).
