How to deal with traffic problems?

See, in the city I'm playing at the moment, there's the mainland. Then, there's an island. The island area seems to have the most traffic issues.

Any way to reduce traffic?

I have got rid of my traffic probs permanently.

just need correct type of game playing.

I use highways, avenues, roads, rails, el rail, mono rail and tram not much, heavy use of  bus stops and few flups and overpasses. ohh yeah massive use of subway :)

Pics?

The NAM is the easiest way, as it allows for intelligent traffic and increases network capacity (if you want it to) to reasonable levels.

I agree. Use NAM to help reduce traffic. I also suggest to show us some images so that we can figure out what is wrong. :)

Before a good answer can be given, we need a level playing field.  When a question is asked, those who answer immediately assume the poster's version is the same as theirs, but this may not be the case, especially with newer posters.

Please specify what your game version is:

  1. Deluxe, Loaded from CD, no updates  (1,1,610)
  2. Deluxe, Loaded from CD + EP1 (1,1,638)
  3. Deluxe, Loaded from CD + EP1 + BAT texture fix (1,1,640)
  4. Deluxe, Downloaded diskless version. (1,1,641)
  5. Other.

These are all Windows versions.

If you are running a MAC, please specify if you are running the Asypr version and which one or one of the Windows versions with an emulator.

And if you are having traffic problems on your island, do not use a bridge.  Use ferries instead, and limit the population unless it is a very big island.

I actually re-started the city. This time, I planned ahead and I do have a ferry system.

I do have the NAM installed and as for game version, it's Deluxe(CD)+EP1.

If you play with the night switching on, you also need the BAT textures fix from SC4Devotion.

For a smaller island population, lots of bus stops can solve traffic problems. For larger populations, a subway system will take care of it.
