Who uses money cheats/mods?

I usually plop a few money lots when I'm starting a city that needs some extra funds to get it started, but thereafter I never use money cheats/lots. I find that I usually have too much money in the bank on my cities for any practical use, even without cheats. The infrastructure in the game is shockingly cheap.

I'll usually give myself §10.000.000 with the moolah cheat to start with, then not touch it again. That way, I can build a great city without worrying about money, but it will eventually come into play again down the line.

I must be typing it wrong, spaces or no spaces (?), but I cannot get the "Moolah" cheat to work. Any suggestions? The others, within the same pack, all work.

 

I used to play the game a lot more & it worked then. Then my hard-drive died, & I lost EVERYTHING. Trying to get back in the mix again. What sux is, I want it all at once - like it was before. Starting completely over really blows. I do have the 3 discs I bought here, but I guess I forgot about all the "unzip / install" time.

That is what I have been doing. I've tried it with caps without caps, with spaces, without spaces. I just don't understand - "FightThePower" works as do others.

I found the problem -- the download is supposed to go directly into the PLUGIN folder and NOT in a "SUB" folder.

Weird that the other ones worked but MOOLAH didn't.

I have yet to use cheats in any of my cities. I like the challenge of building a nice looking city while keeping a balanced budget. Also, I always end up with a few million after a while so I can do big developments without putting my city in the red. I honestly don't understand what people find so hard about getting a balanced budget...

I have started using the moolah cheat, and have no problem with it I still build small cities/towns and villages without it but larger creations need the extra stimulus the other cheat I use is the building/lot plop for comercial and undustrial areas.

Ah yes, that would figure why moolah didn't accept. DLL files can be quite particular about placement, unlike regular plugins. A good test to check if it's installed correctly is to right click the cheats box. This should open the full list.

 

Probably the reason fightthepower worked is because it happens to be a default command. There are a few that are hard-coded into the game. These can be entered into the box without using the "Extra Cheats" DLL:

On the topic of commands, Buggi has recently for a few of them. This includes additional flora options which may be useful when terraforming (especially to preserve flora). I'm not sure how many people have heard about this. So just thought I'd mention it here, as it's quite a neat discovery for SC4.

I don't use money cheats per se, but do enjoy the super demand mod to keep my tax base nice and fat.

I've never used a money cheat. I don't understand how a SC4 city could go bankrupt.

 

I also try not to 'cheat' by building something unrealistic. I just play the simulation the way it was designed and there's always enough money for realistic upgrades/development and an occasional landmark.

 

Not that there's anything wrong with cheating - play the way you like!

You can't cheat yourself.  If you had an opponent, using some of the auxiliary commands might be considered cheating, but it is a misnomer carried over by the game culture.  The so-called cheats are just console commands.  Some of them are rather damaging to your game, for example "fight the power" makes the game unplayable after a while.

I think i've not used a cheat code on a simcity game since simcity 3000.That was on my mums Macintosh (powermac) back when I was a teenager. I do happen to recall cheats for The Sims however, in many different incarnations, out of practise, due to my girlfriend play it :)

yes, because I don't "play" the game, I "sandbox-creative-mode" the game. moolah, demand mods, unlocking rewards,... the full package.

I always say: the way I use sc4 is more like building a model railroad.

 

Model railroad requires at least these three things: time, space and money, not to mention patience. Maybe that is why I like SimCity and what it has to offer as an alternative to model railroading.

 

The money cheats like "moolah", I will try to not take too much of it at any one time, just enough to help balance the budget. There was a time when the game will create havoc for you with earthquakes because of certain cheats.

For the people having trouble with the moolah cheat dll, if you put it in both the programs folder and the my documents folder you will never have any more trouble using it. Correction programs in the plugins folder.

Overkill.  Unless you want it to be global to all users of the machine don't put anything in the Programs area.  The main point with any *.dll as a plugin is that it must not be in a sub-directory.

I use money-tree and moolah. I play the game more as a sandbox, but still make sure I'm making some money.

"riskymoney" is the one that might cause an earthquake iirc

And I do, because often I plan out the city first and then develop it, and I end up using all my money in the process. I use the Click for Reset Park lot, which resets the city's funds to 1 million. It's one of the first custom content lots I have downloaded.

I haved used cheats in the past but now, 10 years of playing I can play easily without! I pretty much have unlimited money anyway

I use a few cheats (BSC funding, I used to use the money tree) and I use quite a few mods. The mods add something extra to the game, instead of the annoying steep hills and wierd curves (Thanks, NAM!)

I actually took cheating a one step further. Yes you can use moolah, but you can generate RCI revenue while setting taxes to zero. In NAM there is this traffic configuration setup program. All forms of transport have a fee to use: including Sims walking or using cars. Now in vanilla SC4 it costs Sims 0 simoleans to walk or to drive their vehicles. But I set these values to a small amount as a means of 'taxing' the Sims. It also produces tens of thousands of simoleans, if not more, as cities become larger.

 

Now that is cheating! But hey zero taxes! Or 'taxes' which don't effect RCI demand... ;)

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.
