Right lets see. I kind of haven't played Sim City 4 in ages but the other day had the urge to open it up and give it a try again. Now to my shock and horror (I'm usually a vanilla kinda guy) I decided I wanted to spice things up a bit. So several days later and a hefty sum of space taken up on my hard drive, I bring you.

Mitiga

A tiny random town of everything

Basically I think I may have got a bit carried away with downloading stuff so I'm really not to sure what's going to develop in this small region (1 big tile surrounded buy 8 medium ones). Anyway let's get on with it shall we.

So anyone whose seen any of my CJ's know that I like to play the game rather than create a perfect picture type look so that's what were going to do. With this in mind a hell of a lot of what you'll see as we go through the growth of the city might be a bit pointless (like detailing on farms that get replaced one update later) but hey, it gives me something to do and improve my skills on (hopefully).

I'll also be doing it in the same form as my last CJ in that I'll be zoning based off of whats the most demanded, and adding civic structures when the advisors say so. I am using CAM and NAM though so it'll definetly be a different journey (though I won't be using any cheat lots or stuff I consider to extremely unbalance the game) Absoulutely not an even slightly sensible way to play the game but hey, it might give us a natural looking town/city at some point.

As mentioned above my plugins are rather random, so thoguh we have a small rural community to start out, don't be suprised if you see Japanese and other random buildings develop as the town grows.

Right welcome to Mitiga.

This was the surveyors aerial photograph before the area was setteled (that then changed slightly before I begun building the town but it's mostly the same). This is the large tile in the middle of a the map and has a forked river in it.

StartingArea.jpg

Now we jump forward several years to where our esteemed mayor, Mr Smallton has built up this small community of happy slow going folk (well he likes to think their happy anyway).

update1overview.jpg

Taking a closer look, new citizens will arrive by this small dock and be greeted by some factories and a small diesel generator. First impressions are everything right?

heartandsoulofthecommunity.jpg

Anyway it's not all bad, once you get further into the settlement you can enjoy the quiet peaceful rural life in your very own ranch like home. Or maybe you'll end up with a trailer. Who knows?

Nicehousingarea.jpg

Of course, once you have a house you'll need a job to keep the house. Why not work on one of the many family farms surrounding Mitiga? After all, it's the only choice you have (factory jobs all gone I'm afraid). Anyway here's a nice photo of Mr Farin's Family Farm.

MrFarinsFarm.jpg

Oh and not shown in the above overview is the newest neighbourhood in the town. Situated surrounding my first MMP scene attempt, the named 'Middle Rock Pool' could have been your home if they were a bit faster in applying. Tough luck.

MiddleRockPool.jpg

Anyway that's all for now. Hope you didn't grimace too much as we took a first look at my atrocit..,I mean town, and will still join me next time as we see how/if Mitiga expands.

Till then

Schriefer: Thanks and I'll sure try to keep it up!

    freemunchies: Thanks

Crazyforsimcity: Thanks I'm glad you like it.

Schulmanator: Hey Schulmanator, thanks for dropping by. Don't worry either, there's plenty of rooms for cats to sun themselves in Mitiga.

Entry 2: Farms, Flora and Favela's.... wait what?

Yes, today we take a look at how the small town of Mitiga has accommodated for even more varied lifestyles while I try and get the highest demand bar to be something other than agriculture. Speaking of which, here's demand at the beginning of this update.

    Demandgraph.jpg

Anyway as you can see, people still want agricultural jobs so, being the accommodating mayor that I am I spent a while adding farms and random details while I waited for them to grow and fulfill the demand (or rather make something else higher). So, what follows is a series of random images from the developing and finished farming expansion.

First up is some basic amenities for the sims of Mitiga. For a while now the advisers and resident's had been complaining about various services like fire, health care, education etc. So deciding I'd try and fix at least one of these I've added this small pharmacy/clinic thing and a church. Sure there still moaning about education, fire coverage, water and police but hey, its a start right?

    addedchurch.jpg

Now anyway, as I was waiting for the farms to grow I added some more MMP details to random areas near the town. Below are a couple of these including a look at Goover's Meadow and the pool near Old Man Ken's new farmstead. Only problem with this is that now the sims are complaining about future plans to expand on Gover's Meadow and as such, expansion space in the actual town grounds may be tight in the future

    GoversMeadow.jpg

    FarmsandFlora.png

Funnily enough last entry we mentioned how if you weren't so lucky you'd end up with a Shack instead of a nice Farmhouse style thing. Well now (due to the randomness of my Plugins and my strict rule on letting stuff grow as it want's in accordance with actually playing the game rather than creating a scene), you might feel a bit more lucky in your Shack when you see the newest form of accommodation in the town. Yes you've got it Shanties. Mind you the sims living in then are pretty happy and still get the free health care access so I'm sure its all good.

     AlternativeHosuing.jpg

Lastly here's a kind of overview of a few of the farms that I added this update. As you can see I think I may have got carried away with diagonal streets and MMP's a little bit and created what are probably the most useless farms ever. Still I think they make a pretty pattern.

    Farmsfarmsandmorefarms.jpg

Oh yeah and the eagle eyed among you may have noticed that the entire ground texture and look of the map has changed. Due to invaluable advice from Paeng who pointed out that the white beaches looked a bit weird, I replaced the terrain mod I had with the Hidden Valley one. A much better look in my opinion.

So yes, if you have any mods or bats that you think will fit in please don't hesitate to suggest them. If their commercial, industrial or residential however they need to be growable and most importantly, non game-breaking as I'm trying to play the game here primarily.

    Till next time

    Good work.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

    LnX: Thanks!

    Entry 3: Hosuing Benefits

Right where were we? Oh yes we'd finally finished the farmland bonanza and moved on to housing. To show why here's a look at the RCI indicator showing that, having double the amount of jobs than people to fill them, does incite people to come live in your settlement.

    Entry3RCI.jpg

Now however, the mayor had one thing to do before allowing the expansion of housing in Mitiga and that was responding to pleas for education. Apparently he'd been receiving a number of letters from irate parents (and a moaning Educational Advisors) saying:

"Our kidz deserve edokation now! Give it to them!"

Ever one to appease his citizens needs (and wanting a quiet life). The mayor gave the Educational Adviser a load of wood and told her to build a Schoolhouse. Shortly afterwards this shiny building appeared next to the pharmacy and church. As you can see, the desirability of the area sky rocketed at the chance of a "Edokation".

    Schoolhouseandimmediateeffects-1.jpg

After that was built we decided to increase the power production in the town. The three Diesel generators we had were beginnign to struggle and lets face it, diesel isn't exactly cheap. What is cheap however is wood so, as one intrepid citizen pointed out, why not burn that? Needless to say that citizen is now fairly rich and, given how new trees seem to spring up overnight in this area and expansion means a lot of wood clearance its the perfect energy source.

    treepower.jpg

Anyway with the foundations in place for the housing expansion and the ferry dock becoming crowded with eager new citizens, the housing expansion took place. Lets have a look at some of the new areas shall we?

First up my favorite, who wouldn't want a nice house right by the riverside?

    riverbankrecreation.jpg

Moving up, how about living on top of this small cliff? please don't fall off though as we don't have a hospital, river rescue, police or a fully equipped doctors yet.

    Newhousingblock2.jpg

Not the biggest fan of water or heights? This last one may suit you more.

    Newhousingblock.jpg

Anyway now I've shown you them all, the eagle eyed may have noticed a slight and rather ugly theme running through them. Yes that's right, the apparent boom in Row Houses. Now in the right place they'd look lovely and no one else seems to mind them but here, I do. So I fired the civil engineer who designed and built them and hired another one. (aka changed building styles to prevent them growing). Don't worry though, if you live in one of them you won't be losing your house (not yet anyways) and the civil engineer is fine. Last I heard he was applying for a job at the local brickyard.

Time for me to wrap this update up though so I'll leave you with this overview. As you can see this town of 5,000 has spread a bit.

    endofengtryoverview.jpg

    Till next time.

    Entry 4: New Mitiga

Right first off an apology to everyone who was really enjoying the progress of Mitiga as it was, I didn't feel that the map was interesting enough and the banks of what was supposed to be a river, were too high. So seeing as we were only a little way into the town itself I've started over on a more interesting, lower map. Here's a link to both the old and new one so you can decide

    Old Map

    https://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx277/JamesG_1989/Sim%20City%204/City%20Journals/Mitiga/Random%20Images/Mitigaoverview.png

(Please ignore the SCT4 colours I hadn't touched any of the other tiles, only the large one)

    New Map of Mitiga

    https://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx277/JamesG_1989/Sim%20City%204/City%20Journals/Mitiga/Random%20Images/Mitagaoverview.png

As I hope you'll agree, the new map is much more interesting. It's also several pixels bigger and most of it is at SCT4's harbour level.

Right now that's out of the way let's go look at the new town of Mitiga, starting with the initial settlement site.

    new_site_of_mitiga.jpg

Let's see. Natural harbour areas, check (the river is deceptively deep honest). Plenty of flat fertile ground, check (as you'll see its an area with several pools of water dotted around). Plenty of natural resources, aka trees, check.

As to what sort of look I'm going for with the CJ, I'm thinking more along the lines of a settlement in the north (think Alaska, North East Russia or Canada) or something along them lines. Don't actually know if it'll work out like that but hey, that's part of the fun.

Right anyway, this is the area we chose to settle. Now rather than start again from founding I've gone ahead and developed until we were at the same point as where we left off in the old Mitiga. As you'll see though some bits have developed slightly differently to the old Mitiga.

First the heart of the community. Everything comes in and goes out of this small ferry port. As you can see, industry is a much bigger factor here than in the old Mitiga. So much so that the factory managers and farmers are currently at odds with eachother. Mainly due to the factories stealing the farm workers and then complaining that the farms aren't producing enough stuff for them to do factory stuff with. Oh and they also want a bigger harbour as the ferry terminal is getting a bit crowded. Stupid factory managers. Also note that our intrepid citizen has once again monopolized the energy market with the only power source in town.

    ferry_and_harbour.jpg

The small town (around 3k at the end of this entry) has the standard services that Mitiga had, along with a small firestation (please note I reliased the church was missing after seeing this image so expect to see that next entry)

    servicesr.jpg

Anyway now let's move on to the pretty and interesting stuff. Thinking of moving out here? Why not get a house by the river? Please don't go swimming though. There's ferries moving around here and the water is generally pretty cold.

     on_the_riverbanks.jpg

Now remember I said there were a number of pools of water around. You may be thinking 'what is he on about there's no pools in the overview'. Ah but magically they've appeared. Here you can see some farmers using a stream and several pools to provide water for their farms.

    creeks_and_ponds.jpg

Finally for this entry, an overview.

    overview.jpg

Right, hope you all liked the new Mitiga map and town (apologies if you don't lol) and I'll be back soon where we'll (hopefully) find out if the factory managers have stopped bickering and moaning.

    Till then

First off a thanks to everyone for commenting as I manged to debut at 8 in the CJ's first week in BTT! Let's hope I can continue to climb by providing you with stuff you love!

Now for the replies as normal.

Cool_Z: Thanks I'm really glad your enjoying the work on the riverbanks. I'm still tryign to refine my style though so let's hope it continues to get better!

Scriefer: Thanks, glad your enjoying the overviews. Will have to get another one for next entry for you!

TekindusT: Thanks, there fun to play around with!

Entry 5: Where'd the trees go?

Right, after looking at the last update I decided that, once again he tree's weren't right (don't worry though I haven't restarted on another map this time). SO out cam the bulldozers and in came some new vegetation that I think better fits in with feel I wanted for the town (kind of northern Russia, Alaska or Canada feel. So very open wooded areas and such.

As such this is what the new foliage looks like in Mitiga. Sure it's not as dense or full but I think it fits better.

    mitigas_new_look_forests.jpg

Anyway in term's of the actual town, there has been a bit of a industrial burst happen. Coming into play mainly due to the increased level's of education and need to process the swathes of farm produce coming in, the industrial area of Mitiga has expanded rapidly, even instigating the need for a proper dock and harbour.

Luckily the waterways around Mitiga are home to several bays, one of which was already in use for the Passenger Ferries. Anyway, quickly constructing a new harbour in the other bay, the citizens of Mitiga now don't need to sit atop crates of factory goods when using the ferry. Below is a image of the new docks. As you can see life is getting a whole lot more grimy in Mitiga.

    mitiga_docks.jpg

I also added some more detail to the end of the jut that separates the new industrial docks with the old ferry point which has been called Old Man's Teeth by the locals.

    old_mans_teeth.jpg

Finally a overview of the area around the bays, showing the old ferry point and industrial warehouses up the top, and the new industrial expansion, Old Man's Teeth and the new docks in the bottom.

    indutrial_development_overview.jpg

Other than this the farmland has seen a small amount of growth and several smaller satellite villages have sprung up along the tracks outside the main town. Here's a look at the biggest of the forested rural communities. Not much out there just some storage sheds and what seems to a be a mix of cabin housing and higher class family homes.

    smaller_settlements.jpg

Anyway that's all for now. Hope the new bleak look doesn't put you off too much. Commercial demand is also creeping up so it may soon be time to provide some shopping for the citizens of Mitiga.

    Till then
