Problem installing NAM 32

Hi, I'm having problems installing the NAM 32.

I bought a copy of SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition and then installed it. I downloaded the NAM 32 from the LEX website, but when I try to start the download a message shows up saying:

"Your version of SimCity 4 does not have a required patch from EA/Maxis. The game must be patched to at least version 1.1.638.0 in order for the NAM to work properly. Do you want to install this patch now?"

I was almost sure Deluxe Edition included the 1.1.638.0 patch, but I clicked "Yes" and downloaded the patch from the SimCity 4 Devotion website. The patch installed correctly, but when I tried to install NAM 32 again, the message showed up with the same problem.

It seems like the NAM 32 installation program doesn't recognize my version of SimCity 4, and asks me to update it.

The Deluxe Edition includes the 1.1.638.0 patch, doesn't it? And if not, why even if I install it the problem doesn't solve?

Thanks for your help

Where did you buy your copy of Sim City? What operating  system are you running it under (Windows 7, Windows 8 or whatever).

SimCity Deluxe does not include the 1.1.638.0 patch, but you say you have installed it anyway. Are you sure you have installed the correct update for the territory of origin of your copy of the game - which may not be the same as the territory you bought it.

As glazert mentioned, the Deluxe CD version (did you get a CD version?) does not come with the 638 patch. If you hover the mouse pointer over the games exe file (or check its properties) in the C:\Program Files(86)\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps folder, you should be able to see  if the patch was applied - it should be 1.1.638.0. If its not, then you may have tried the wrong patch for your game. If the exe file shows a different version, let us know what it is.

You have to install the EP1 patch first.

Any error messages when you installed the patch? Did you install the SKU2 patch or the SKU1? Version 613 probably requires SKU2.

If you need to patch your game (disc versions), first you need to ensure that none of the original SC files have been modified. So for example if you've installed the I-HT fix or CAM's variant, this patch process will fail. You need to restore the unmodified originals before continuing and then re-apply those fixes to the new file afterwards.

The second step is ensuring you use the matching SKU patch for your version of SC4. In total there are 5 SKUs, where you live or bought the disk will bear no relation to the SKU you have. So you need to physically check, simply look in the install dir, by default:

Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Sku_Data

It will contain a folder named "Sku_#_XX", where # is the SKU number and XX the region, of your installed copy. Now you can be sure which patch is the correct one for your game.

Patch still failing? In the folder containing the patch, a new .txt file would have been generated, "Patchlog.txt", copy/paste the contents into a post and we can advise further.

Did you read the instructions when you made such changes? It tells you clearly to make a backup and keep it. If you didn't do this, you'll have to uninstall and reinstall SC4 to restore the original files.

You must then have two completely separate installs, where did you get SC4 from, it is a disk or a digital download?

Either way, the solution once more, delete all currently installed versions of SC4. Then only install one of them again. Note if you are using a digital version, you should not need to patch them, the patches are included.

That means the files have been modified or are not the original ones. So, either you need to restore the original files (as per above) or you simply won't be able to use the patches if such files are not genuine and unmodified.

As custom regions and plugins aren't default equipment for the game, the process of re-installation should not affect them.  If you've done anything to the default regions that come with the game (Berlin, Fairview, London, New York, San Francisco, and Timbuktu) that you'd like to save, however, you'd want to back those up, as the re-install will put clean copies of those into the Regions folder, overwriting the existing ones.

In any case, it would not hurt to use this as an opportunity to back up all your regions and plugins, particularly if you're attached to them.  I'd just go in and select the Plugins and Regions folders in the My Documents\SimCity 4 folder, right click and hit "Copy", find a suitable location, right click and hit "Paste".

If you're going from a disc copy, if you know which files were causing the patcher to hang up, you can alternatively just copy the original files off the discs into the game's directory, and this should suffice (speaking from experience).

The stuff you have under "My Documents" will be untouched by reinstalling. Only registry entries and things under the program files folder should be hit. Back up apps and downloads you put there, and prepare to patch and datpack again if your game version needs such.

Finally, if you bought the crap digital version (buggy and unpatchable) from... was it Origin? ... then you should buy a good version of the game (Simtropolis recommends one -- and it comes already patched).
