I am really having prob with texturing... The textures won't come perfectly or correctly... Also really having a hard time to apply multiple textures.

I want to apply one texture to roof of house and another to the walls and another to door/windows but the overall building gets only one texture.

I saw soo many YT videos and they are doing soo simple thing but they get perfect texture but mine won't turn up perfect.

Also I am using the house dim. as 12m * 12m and texture dim. as 64px * 64px

Thank you :/

Have you tried googling for it ?

The way you'll texture your bat strongly depends of how you built it. (modeling from one big block/building individual parts)

    Really lost :(

And I saw your building... They are stunning... I also use Photoshop  but may be not upto your level.

Also I saw you use 3DsMax.

After seeing you I am also thinking that whether I shall switch to 3DsMax or not ...

I am already struggling with GMax.. Won't be 3DsMax more tough for me?

3DSmax is a beast, it's huge. Gmax is a bit more understandable I guess but still troublesome. Those are not easy software. But you have to make a first step to go somewhere.

Have you tried using sketchup ? I've heard it's more "user-friendly"

Nope never used Sketchup... I am total new to 3D.

May be if the Batting teachers accept me then I can give a try to 3DsMax.

BTW, can you tell me which version is 3DsMax 9? What version do you use?

In this link they are mentioning it in years.

    I use a 2011 version. 9 is from 2006, it's the last year they used a number.

You should watch tutorials on youtube, about the basics, about textures in general. Grab knowledge here and there and even if the things you learn are not bat-specific they'll help you understand how 3d works.

Well if you still want to use GMAX, this tutorial should help with calibrating the textures . I think it's best to compare your textures with screenshots from the game to see if they blend in well (the default buildings tend to have a pinkish, slightly-washed out hues) and then apply the correction. And here's a tutorial on gradients, for that extra oomph (a thing I don't think that tutorial points outs that I think is worth mentioning is that the gradients on the Maxis buildings tend to have a bluishness to them). Also remember to apply the gradient before the color correction.

The tutorials are for Photoshop but they can be done with GIMP.

Edit: Realized you asked something different, Here's the tutorial I learned to apply multiple textures on an object from.

If you are not currently modeling with any specific software and your goal is to produce BATS for SC4 then I would not recommend SketchUp. I am pretty efficient in SU and have used it for years which is a curse in some ways, but I use it because I am an architect and create presentations of my design work. SU works perfect for what I do......so I am trying to learn the ropes along with you for MAX for materials as I have been told (and I inherently already know just hate to admit it...) that MAX is really the only way to go for material application. If I was not a SU junky I would be modeling everything in MAX! learning curve just too great for me to be frank...unless I can start picking things up as I work with it on materials.

Keep after it! You will eventually get the hang of things and no doubt do some great stuff. just have to be patient :)
