I-HT Bug fix

I tried applying the I-HT bug fix after reading replies to my question about workers in factories.  Unfortunately, it didn't work so well.  wouanagaine's Dat Packer did not work on my computer, so I was left with the weird doubling effect.  I thought about downloading the dat packer that "A Nonny Moose" suggested, but I was unsure because I really am not computer savvy and don't really know how these things work.  So I thought, well, I'll just live with it...

Then I realized that the bug fix messed with my "industrial revolution mod".  My industrial areas looked all messed up and high tech was growing in the middle of dirty industry again.

So I got rid of the I-HT bug fix.

Any insights into this?  Either how to fix the "doubling" that happens with this "fix" for the non-computer-savvy, or on the subject of it being possibly incompatible with the IRM?

My cities are coming along great though, just if possible I'd like to have my high tech industry fully employ people who need jobs.

Thanks :)

Pretty sure it wasn't the I-HT that broke you IRM. I and many many people are using the same mods and your the first thread I've ever read about the I-HT having adverse effects on the IRM mod.

Here is the Dat program I used and it was easy peasy IMO.

Certainly hope you made a backup of your original SimCity_1.dat file before you tried merging the I-HT fix. If you're still using the original after trying to merge the two is what might be causing your game to "break".  If this is the case, you might have to re-install SC4 again to remedy the issue.

This is the reason why I haven't tried the I-HT fix yet...

Its so scary :O

I really wish if there would have been some easy peasy single mod installation and voila :(

Unfortunately, the method being described is easy peasy

The current game limitations being what they are, a lot of work went into the fix and the programs used.

It really is a simple matter of making sure you don't overwrite the SimCity_1.dat file, but instead move it somewhere safe. Then copy the new version from Plugins_Compressed to your program files; voila! Then erase/remove the I-HT fix from plugins. Not much different from a typical plugin install done properly...

Hmm I think I will go through the tut, re-write it in more easy way, get it checked by the experts in this forum and then follow that... Also I will post that easy peasy tut for newbies/dummies in the Omnibus.

OK will be back soon.

The nice thing about the dat packer is that, as soon as it is set up correctly, you can use it over and over without problems. Any changes are quickly done then.

Also, the IRM mod cannot be applied to already grown areas, and you cannot remove the mod from areas grown with the IRM mod. In both cases, your industry areas will look messed up (of course, you can delete all industry and let it grow again). One other thing: of course, only standard Maxis industry will follow the growth rules set by the mod. For all other industry mods, you will have to set the rules in the Reader yourself accordingly.

For the computer unsavvy some of these things may seem a little tricky.  However, a little perseverance will bring good results.

    Thanks for the replies everyone...

The instructions made it pretty clear to back up my original Sim City_1.dat in a separate location, I also backed up my plugins just in case, but I never got to the step where I tried to merge the dat files, I (tried to) install the dat packer and it said there was an error installing it.  I wonder if I tried to install it into the wrong place?  I put it under computer: win7: Program Files (x86): Maxis: Sim City 4 Deluxe.

I installed the IRM mod a while ago, and started my region fresh after installing it, so no old industry existed when I started running it, no problems till I downloaded the I-HT fix, and only in the cities I played before deciding to delete the fix, which is why I was wondering...

I'll try again although not right this second because I'm not feeling confident about it right now.  It is a little scary to us computer unsavvy people.  This game has made me learn more about how my computer does stuff than I ever had to know before... it's worth it though :)

I put it under computer: win7: Program Files (x86): Maxis: Sim City 4 Deluxe.

Since it's an installer, I probably wouldn't alter it's installation location. Just let it install as it's own program in your C:/Program Files.

Then you should have the the shortcut in your Start menu under SC4Utilities to launch the program. Not sure if it actually creates a shortcut to your desktop. Been a while since installing the DPacker.

From there all you have to do, through the DatPacker, is select the copied version of your SimCity_1.dat & the I-HT.dat files to be merged together. Then just place the updated SimCity_1.dat back in your C:/Programs/Maxis/SC4DorRH folder. Waalaa, I-HT bug fix installed and ready to go.

Hope this helps ease your apprehension about getting the fix installed.

Yes, I looked, and I have it under "C:\Program Files (x86)\SC4DatPacker 2008", which is probably the default location. There may be a requirement to download some additional dll's for this program, but that would be something that comes up when you want to run it, not during installation.

I believe the help files define the dlls required to run DATpacker.  You should have them before trying to run it.

I have the same problem - duplicate menu items, though only transit and zone buttons, not stations nor puzzle piece buttons. I am computer savvy, but can't get this to work properly either. I have explained the details at the bottom of the page if anyone cares to look and see what i am doing wrong.

UPDATE: I have resolved this knowing that saving the original file in the game folder as "SimCity_1.dat_Original" was not enough to hide the file from being used by the game.
