Maybe a CJ...

I wasn't quite sure where to put this but I've been experimenting on a different method of laying down forest areas (at least for me), a bit stylized but looks nice I think. Here are a few pictures.

The region:

A close up of the active area:

Here is the main town:

Any input is welcome!

Actually I like the look.  You should fill the 'empty' spaces with some other flora MMPs.  Also,  if possible use different types of trees in the forest to give a little more natural look.

In the second picture how do you zoom closer whilst in the region view?

p.s. This has great potential for a CJ.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

p.s. This has great potential for a CJ.

This program, Sawtooth's Region Census v0.8, will allow you to show a regional picture. You can uncheck the fit pic to screen and will get an expanded picture. I then did a screen shot of the area I wanted.

I did that a little in a couple of cities. I probably won't change every city (laying those forested sections was real time consuming), but I have an idea that I will use on the next one. I'll post a picture. Thanks.

Very nice.  I find that I try to make my trees conform to the terrain and possible water courses that may be underground.  You can see the dry creek beds and arroyos if you look closely enough.

Very beautiful but I was thinking if there can be more varying type of trees and some seasonal ones too.

I have really fallen in love with seasonal trees.. They make the city so colorful.

I've generally used the Maxis trees in God Mode because it was much easier to cover large areas, and they reminded me of the oaks and maple that cover the hills in my home region. But they are somewhat boring and messy so I've realized I need to find another method. The pictures I posted here were a start but as I said, the layout was kind of stylized and uniform.

Your input has been helpful and I've done some more experimenting as the following pictures will show. I await your progress reports...

Here I changed the pattern to a more natural uneven one, and added variety:

Then I tried some detail with rocks, shrubs, and fallen tree:

    Thanks,

These are top notch nature pictures, so if you have the time then by all means start a CJ!

Nice things. May I ask what exactly this method you're using is? Those are some believable, authentic-looking forests. I have my own ways of achieving this (or trying, at the very least), but I'm interested what you came up with.

First I paint SimFox "Large Plane Trees" on the area I want forested, not quite covering it completely. I then fill in the area with  CPT_Temporary Rainforest And Jeronidogg Ploppable Trees to give the forest diversity, following the terrain. You can then add fallen logs, rocks, etc.

    Thanks for the interest!

I like the look much better.  It has a more 'natural' feel.  Kind of gives the look of high mountain forest.
