Seems Pussy Riot has been beaten up and whipped by the Russian Gestapo. Again. It's disgusting that the olympic committee would allow the games to be hosted in The Putin Federation. How can you whip a person for protesting the FACT that the olympics is a political event for Putin?

Gestapo is more than a little out of line.  If it had been them, these (female dogs) would have been 'spurlos versenkt im nacht und nebel' and not in some sympathetic(?) health unit.  For some of their earlier atrocities, including blasphemy against the Russian Orthodox church, they would have been burned at the stake in the not too distant past.  If they keep up their current level of provocation I am sure the Russian government will find an oubliette in which to forget them.

Adelina Sotnikova wins the gold in Ladies Figure Skating over Yuna Kim.  Mad joy in the Iceberg Stadium.  Carolina Kostner takes bronze.

 

Adelina is the first ever Russian woman to take this title.

 

This will help a little, I suppose with the destruction of the Russian hopes in Hockey.

Speaking of hockey, Canada's women's hockey tied up the game in last minute. USA would be pissed if CAN pulled off a win in OT.

 

EDIT:  Oh look it happened lol. Well congrats to CAN for winning the gold in Women's hockey.

Just caught the end and saw Canada score twice to force the overtime period. All this after USA hit the post from an open goal, which would have been game over at 3-1.

A really intense game and quite an incredible comeback.

 

Big final tomorrow in the men's curling with Canada vs Great Britain. You never know, strange things can happen in the pressure of a final.

Canada's woman's teams were on fire today. Gold in both curling and hockey bumped us from 7th to 5th place. If our male counterparts can do the same, we'd be right behind Norway (if they don't win any more golds )

Performing sex-based music inside the sanctuary of a Russian church is carrying the idea of protest a little far.  I suspect emotions are running fairly high in the Russian establishment.

 

If you've been following the Vatican thread I started, I fail to see any lack of sympathy.  Francis is doing is level best to tame the Curia dragon, and seems to be succeeding if someone doesn't poison him first.

Unlike some of my fellow Americans who are upset we lost the hockey game... I am actually satisfied with the outcome. Hockey is Canada's game. For them to win the gold seems like it should simply be the way god intended it. Just like the Canadian dollar being worth slightly but not too much less than the US dollar.

Tsar Vladimir is on record as saying that winning hockey wins the Olympics.

 

Russia has the top medal count, Norway second, Canada third, but Canada has gold in men's and women's hockey as well as men's and women's curling.  From the Tsar's perspective, what does that mean?  52 Billion dollars and they couldn't even make the finals?

Interesting how Russia's new citizens put them at the top.   Short track speed skater Viktor Ahn (formerly Ahn Hyun-soo of South Korea) won 3 gold medals and parallel slalom snowboarder Vic Wild (formerly of the USA) won 2 gold medals.  Without them, Russia would be tied for 1st in overall medal count and tied 4th in gold medals.

 

In other news, the Dutch speed skating program is amazing.  They totally dominated the sport with a delegation of only a few dozen athletes.
