Smaller buildings?

I came to this site hoping to download some new buildings to add to my city. I have to admit, the ones I have seen that people created look great, but there is one problem. They are too big! I mean, like, ALL of them! Here's what I mean. I try to download some new skyscrapers. All the ones I see on here are like 5x5 or 6x6. I dont have any lots that size in my city, and Im not going to tear down half my city, including my existing skyscrapers, just to make room for some new stuff. This extends further down in size also. I wanted to get some restaurants I have heard of like McDonalds, but those come on 3x3 lots. In the game, I get big huge office buildings and apartment complexes on lots that size. So next time you build something like this, please, ask yourself if it fits with other things that are already in the game. I mean, there's no way you can tell me a McDonalds takes up the same amount of room as big building like that. If you have to eliminate the parking lot, or some of the grounds around buildings, fine! Just please make them smaller. Thank you. I look forward to seeing some smaller commercial buildings in the future.

PS: if you could include the lot size in the description, that would be great : )

That was a bit of a harsh statement. Because if you looked harder you would probably find that most of the lots are alot smaller than that. Recently alot of BATers have been putting buildings on larger lots, for realism. Just don't sort the lots y most recently uploaded, but by something else. I garentee you that there is many more buildings that are on smaller lots. Try searching for specific lots, and sort them by most dowloaded or highest rated, that way you will find the older ones on smaller lots. Sorry, there's not much else I can say except that there are over 7700 files on the STEX, and just a few are on massive lots. Good luck in finding them, just keep at it! 44.gif

The point seems to be the lots are too big, not that there are none.

Why lot sizes are not mentioned on some STEX releases baffles me too, as its one of the basic stats. A clear ingame and night in game shot of what is being distributed would also assist searches...

If You create a Lot and dump the Parking Lot and Greenery your left with a building that not many are going to want.

The designers here in this community have busted there butt to improve your game far and beyond what EA has done for improvements.

I suggest to anyone that has a problem of any sort from a STEX download to go Download the BAT Tool and let us see if you can do better.

Sorry if this offends anyone but you either put up or shut up.

I know the truth herts and it ain't welcome here at ST but this ain't Neverland.

I love all the stuff on STEX. Size gives your city a variety. Some buildings are big, and some are small.

Most lots and bats do have the lot size somewhere in the information but BlackBeard has it right.  All the tools necessary to create your own lots and bats are free for the taking.   So take them and create your own and don't complain about the hard work others have freely done until you've proven you can do better.10.gif

Edit:  I just noticed that there are two seperate threads for this.  Why?  Moderator!!!

took the words right out of my mouth...ive given BATing a try and so far there is nothing in my collection that i would show my dog, no less this great community, but the point is its pretty friggin tuff and those that are so kind as to contribute their time and skills should be commended for their work...sure there are some BATs out there that are a little out of wack but the proper thing to do would be contact that person privately or rate the lot and leave a comment there

You don't seem to pay much attention to when you play the game, because if you did you would notice that there are alot of light density buildings with large foot prints.

And as others have said, change it yourself! 6.gif It only takes a few clicks in the lot editor to change a lots size, and only a few more clicks to reposition and delete the extra props. It's very easy to do.

You guys dont seem to get what Im saying. First off, Im not complaining; Im making a suggestion. Second, when you think about it, it is extremely unrealistic to have such small buildings take up such huge lots. WHo here will honestly tell me that a major league stadium is the same size as 4 McDonalds? As for creating my own stuff, I have done that before and posted it on sites like this, back when we were all playing Simcity 3000. I am not saying there are no low density/large lot size buildings, I am saying there are essentially no skyscrapers (high density/3x3 lot) on here, and dont tell me there are without providing a link because I have looked at every single commercial building on this site. If you want to take my suggestions and try to make some stuff on a smaller lot size, I applaud you. If not, then I guess I'll just do my thing and you do yours.

In a way I do agree.  If you look at buildings in the cities, normally they only fit on a block.   Or they are edged with other buildings.  In some aspects they only take up 1/4 of a block.

Here have a look http://www.eomaha.com  its a link on the city I live in - Omaha, NE.

I have to disagree with you here. While the stadium/McDonald's contrast is a fair one, take a drive one day to your nearest suburban sprawl area. Notice how large the lots are. Every single building is surrounded by its own parking lot, which can be as large as an acre (or many acres) in some places. While the building itself is fairly small, the lot is huge, since the facilitation of automobiles is the primary goal.

The scale of one grid square in SimCity 4 is 16 meters x 16 meters. A 3x3 McDonald's lot in the game would be 48 meters x 48 meters---not unreasonable if you combine the size of the building, the drive-through lanes, the parking lot and the grass buffer zone next to the arterial highway on which the lot sits.

Now, as for the stadium, those are most often scaled too SMALL, rather than too large. It's not the McDonald's fault that a stadium is the same as 4 restaurants. It's the tiny stadium's fault. If anything, most of the lots in the game should be LARGER, to better reflect reality---especially the reality in everything-must-be-enormous America.
