Region border neighbor connections: Leads to neighboring regions, or dark abyss?

I am developing 3 regions, all part of a single country. But the only thing that hinders me is: Neighbor connections leading out of the regions. What I thought is that the neighbor connection will lead to a city tile of the neighboring region, but it could be possible that it leads to nowhere but a dark abyss. Here's a visualization of this dilemma:

It's pretty much the dark abyss. Though your current city with a connection to Sim Nation (region boarders) will still have a small effect (mostly cap relief) on that city, but nothing else.

Regions have no effect on other regions in your SC4 folder.

Ah well, that's why my regions are all islands. I hate my sims to fall down to the abyss. :P

Worse, what is waiting for the unwary out there is the great bit bucket in the sky from whose bourne no connection returns.

So... Maxis designers are flat-Earthers out to mock Columbus?

Add to future Sim City wish-list:

Each unbounded edge (aka "Sim Nation") gets a set of parameters to help it act more like a living, developing wider world (or not). A map designer (through a design tool) should be able to create one set of default values for all of the region's borders, and then override each individual edge as needed. Optional: The tool could allow the map-maker to tell any edge to imitate any other edge.

Instead of just running off the edge why not just wrap around.  For the connection you could pretend you were on a cylinder.  That is, if you run off the west edge, pick up a city tile on the east edge, and north/south similarly.

The rulers of SimNation believed the Earth is flat, so they made it that way.

While the earth may be round, most people in it are flat.

Well for me I just pretend it's a region connection even though the game doesn't have region connections, only cities.  I made a California region once and I had a San Diego one, and a Los Angeles one.  Going north from the San Diego region, I pretend the connection is going out towards Los Angeles the region.

I try to just continue connections for aesthetics. Do what makes you happy.

You need a TARDIS to get to the other regions.

    :D

I'm sure a Void Ship will work just as well.

If you wrap E-to-W to form a cylinder, and if you wrap that N-to-S, then you've made a torus (doughnut-shape).

    Mmmm... donuts!

Delicious.  Yes, I took a serious course in topology.  Now if we can just get the right twist, the whole thing could be a Klein Bottle.
