Judging by the latest screenshots of Arendal, I can really see how great you have managed the city. It really has a great feeling of Holland to it!

Also excellent job with the canals and the Gates, I love it!

Izzulguyr: Glad you love it: it's still far from what I want, the region is still very thinly populated so there are still no grown BAT buildings (except a few): I'd like to play with the rule of not using plopables, everything must be grown (with a few minor exceptions) Hope you'll stay in touch, thanx for your comment!! (and the compliment!)9.gif

When Paul arrived in Nederburg aan de Messel (transl Nederburg on the Messel), he quickly ran from house to house to spread the news. Within moments the church-bell was sounding through the town. Nederburg was a cosy community on the banks of the Messel, and prospered because of good farming conditions. Already the first windmill was built to regulate the irrigation of the farmlands. Courier provided some pics:

    /idealbb/files/Nederburg1.jpg

    Nederburg's first windmill:

A canal-system is currently being constructed:

Cows are grazing peacefully in the grasslands:

    /idealbb/files/Ned3 cow.jpg

Windmills are very useful for regulating the irrigation of the surrounding farmland:

    /idealbb/files/Ned 6.jpg

    The towncenter, with surrounding farmlands:

    /idealbb/files/Ned 8 wijk.jpg

All the residents gathered on the church-square, to listen what this messenger had to say.

“We must build dikes to keep the water out!” He explained; “And also me must quickly build a lot of windmills to regulate the irrigation of the polders (farmland), so that we can pump the excess water out!”. People started asking questions: “How do we do that?” and “Why should we?”

“Because if you don’t, you will all die!” Paul screamed.

He gave the mayor some old postcards he had with him from Holland, to show an example of the dikes and windmills, so that everybody could understand the concept:

    /idealbb/files/Hollandcard.jpg/idealbb/files/Hollandcard2.jpg

“Now I have to hurry to Messelmonde, to warn the people there” As quickly as he had come, he was disappeared, leaving a worried and numb population behind.

how did you make the water shallow enough to plop trees on em??

Sim_Idiot: Wow! thanx for the bunnies; and it's good that I made you laugh! (although it can be hard to make jokes sometimes when your native language isn't English... 2.gif)
flrscf: it's really great that you love the story and everything 35.gif I have to do a lot of work for the next update, so be patient...
The Coffeeshop can be found here:

Mikeaut1: You're back again! How was your vacation? I guess you doubleposted in your enthusiasm? I'm glad Tropicana is back again btw; Thanx10.gif

SODATWIN: I'm not sure what you mean. The pics you quoted show little streams (look on the STEXhttps://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=all&Str=BSC%20PEG
I used the streamtextures on a custom lot)/idealbb/files/example26.jpg
Or do you mean this? For this it is very important to first lower the terrain as much as possible in Godmode (be very precise, just one mouse-click above waterlevel). Then plant the trees; then use the rainmod from Teirusu ( www.teirusu.net ) With a little practice you get this result!
Sheplink, NintendoMaster128: Thanx for commenting! Every post is much appreciated, so I hope you follow the story and give comments, suggestions etc.

Thanx, and Cheerz to everyone. Next update is currently under construction!

    Update 10: ufo sighting

With the foundation of MIA a whole range of new possibilities was there. During the following months large parts of New Holland were mapped and investigated. The population was growing and still new villages and towns appeared. This update tells a remarkable story about what happened recently in the southern part of the region...

    /idealbb/files/South1.jpg

The most southern town in New Holland is Turtle's Bay (Schildpad Baai). In this town, close to the border, a strange event took place.

On saturday evening, august 21st of 22NHE, Ayatri heard a strange noise and looked out of the windows of the Flowermarket where she was working at that moment.

    /idealbb/files/Ayatri1.jpg  /idealbb/files/T17.jpg

She saw something unbelievable: strange objects floating in the sky, making an eerie noise; there were at least three of them... Scared to death she couldn't move, just watch in awe...

    /idealbb/files/Turtle3.jpg /idealbb/files/Turtle7.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Turtle5.jpg

That night, Turtle Bay was visited by the Aliens. Up to this moment, nobody had ever heard of aliens or ufo's or other weird stuff, so you can imagine that Ayatri didn't know what she saw... She decided to go to the police and tell the whole story, and a few days later when she had to come to the police department, she noticed that some secret agents of MIA were there too. They were extremely interested in her story...

    /idealbb/files/Arotu.jpg

One of the agents introduced himself as Arotu, and he told her not to speak to ANYONE about what she had seen. If she did, he told her, she would be locked up for seven years and sent into exile...

Despite the strong security measures, it was already too late. The rumour spread very quickly, and within a few days everybody in New Holland had heard about what happened in Turtle's Bay. The commotion easily turned into panic, and something had to be done.

    /idealbb/files/Turtle1.jpg

The next days mayor Paul of Messelmonde contacted other mayors and rulers in the country. After a brief deliberation with some of them, it was decided that there would be a secret conference: at least something had to be done to handle the crisis. In several towns riots had already begun. Desperate and frightened people wanted to know what the hell was going on. Finally the conference took place, on august 30th; nine days after the occurrence of the Unidentified Flying Objects of Turtle Bay. The Turtle Bay Crisis Deliberation was held in Hellegat, in the luxury resort hotel Tio Pepe (the only one in New Holland!)

    /idealbb/files/Hellegat.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Tio

The following towns were represented: Messelmonde, Turtle Bay, Nederburg, Arendal, Hellegat, Dronkendam, Ringeloord, Arenburg, Skippers Gate, Golddiggers District, Kapers Bay, Hoornberg and Slijkmoerassen.

The meeting took two full days and nights, and eventually a remarkable decision was made. The representatives of New Holland unanimously decided to start a big cooperation to unravel the mystery, and they went even further: they decided that all towns and villages of the country would unite in one single nation: New Holland, with a single capital and a soon to be elected president. They also decided that MIA (Messelmonde Intelligence Agency) would be transformed into NHID (Nieuw Holland Inlichtingen Dienst; transl. New Holland Intelligence Agency), with nationwide competence. Courier was appointed to be the director of the new Agency

    /idealbb/files/Courier.jpg /idealbb/files/Hellegat-overview.jpg

After the decisions were made public, the whole nation relaxed down a bit. They felt a little bit relieved: at last action was taken. There were also rumours about an army to be formed, with missile installations to defend against possible Alien attacks... but that wil be something for the next update...

Ayatri, after all, was very happy she reported the ufo's. It turned out that she was the only one who had witnessed the event, that night. More important: it was actually BECAUSE of her report, that eventually New Holland was united; she was very thankful for that, and she started looking for a way to do more for the sake of New Holland....

Well, that will be stuff for future updates, for now I'd like to give you an idea of the town where Ayatri lives: Turtle Bay. Some screenshots from her fotoalbum (when she was doing a sightseeing tour with a local tourist helicopter)

    /idealbb/files/Turtle8.jpg

notice the watchtower that watches over the sea..

    /idealbb/files/Turtle10.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Turtle14.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Turtle15.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Turtle12.jpg

And once again that beautiful beachfront at sunset:

    /idealbb/files/Turtle9.jpg

Followed by a night shot of Turtle Bay's highest office building 9.gif:

    /idealbb/files/T16.jpg

I'd like to apologize for the bad picture quality, but you know, Ayatri just had a 5 dollar camera...

As always I'd like to know what you think of the story sofar; if you have any suggestions, critique, questions, or if you just want to say hello.. it's all ok

    Comments are most welcome!

most impressive, utora - i especially like the beach...looks like you are proud of it, and there is good reason for it, as you obviously put a lot of work into it.
i also like your story - you have a talent at telling a story: not too complicated, but not too simple.
the ONLY bit of critizism i can give is to edit out the yellow border seen when pausing the game - those can detract a little bit, though to be honest, i've been looking at the pictures so intently, i barely notice them.

Hi, I'm usually one of those ppl that only looks at the journals . But this CJ is so damn good I just had to post something. I love the original story, the original city building and the detail and reality your cities breath! 44.gif

I can't play at the moment since my game pc is down, but you sertainly have given me some very nice ideas!39.gif

Something else, does anyone know how you can get into contact with maxis. I have registered my game and I have an account, but it has been blocked. I don't have the email to activate it anymore and now I can't get BAT. I'd like to experiment with it my self.

For the Dutch folks here: I live in Nijmegen and I would like to try and create some landmarks and stuff from over here.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the story, please don't keep us waiting too long 2.gif I need my shot off NHCJ at least once a week 2.gif

Good luck on developing the region.

MrCinatit: thanx once again for your compliments; yes I love that beach; I can almost imagine what it will be like walking along the boulevard at sunset, with the bright light of the watchtower shining as a halo over the town... Anyway, I agree with your 'point of critique' It doesn't look perfect (the yellow lines) I was in a hurry while making the update, and I forgot to just press the play-button..
andrew george & Dark Avatar: I appreciate that you love the detail, and that you notice it. There's a lot of time invested in those things!
flrscf: who's the president? Good question, I haven't got a clue. I heard that the elections are in November, strange coincidence don't you think? It will all be revealed!
dscampbell: I've been busy with a major exam last week. Fortunately I passed it, so there's more time left now for updating. Thanx btw for the compliments!!! That's what I'm doing this for! And don't worry, there's a MAJOR update coming up today.. So you'll have your shot! Sorry that I don't know how to contact Maxis; can't you send them an email? And those BAT landmarks; will those be from Nijmegen, or from all Holland?

everyone: thanx for commenting! A major update is underway!!

I vote for Messelmonde, Arenburg and Nederburg AAAARG!!! But I bet I can only vote for one!32.gif32.gif32.gif32.gif32.gif

A man can go crazy over this!!! AARGGG!! Which one. I love Arenburg's canal system! I love the entire layout of Messelmonde but I think I like Nederburg most. I vote for Nederburg. I hope you'll expand at least one of the canal systems like in the image of something like Amsterdam, and I think Nederburg has the best start up for that. Arenburg could be a nice Delft kind of town. 29.gif

Isn't it a shame that Oppies canalpack has no diagonal canals. I hope he reads this and will make them anyway 2.gif

OOOH great work once again!!! I so much enjoy browsing through this CJ, it totally feels like I'm playing the game again!! 9.gif Thank a lot for that!!

All the towns are excellently built! But I would have to go with Arenburg. I love the name Arenburg... its good. Also I have one question. How do you put boats into the canals? I have a feeling it may be lot editor related. Thank you, and great job on the neighborhoods 19.gif
