The New Reader's Guide to Simtropolis City Journals

I hope you enjoy this handy little guide to some of the great city journals of the past few years. Most of the 2004 journals listed had at least 5 pages (at 30 replies/page) or had some unusual or significant features. I had hoped to extend the list farther back into 2003, but unfortunately most of those CJs are now missing their pictures.

For the list of 2005-2006 CJs, I raised the reply limit to 300 replies (10 pages), since we've had so many impressive journals come out recently and there's only so many hours in the day to read them all. I will add more journals occasionally as they approach the 300 reply limit. Note that the list now goes in reverse chronological order. Somewhere along the way I have misplaced the SCJU and MOS logos, so if anyway would like to send them to me along with a list of member CJs, I would be happy to add them. Plus I have some catching up to do on my 2006 CJ summaries!

I'd like to thank SimMaster for helping find all the links for the 2004 CJs. I really appreciate it!

Great job. I have a Word document full of CJ links I use to keep track of the ones I like. There are some really good ones and some really bad ones. I am a contrarian though as I think there are several that are extremely over rated and others which are very good but are not well known. I don’t think a CJ should go on for too many pages as it tends to have more replies than updates. And now for a random thought. I use ImageShack and I do notice that the random pictures disappear over time from my CJ and that is extremely annoying especially that the original CJ was lost. Anyone else suffering the same fate and how do I prevent it?

I am happy. Are you?

There's a lot of work behind that list!
And it will indeed be very usefull for the upcoming trixies.

I feel that a simple thank you is a bit inadequate, but I'll say it anyway!

Thanks Mayormommy, in fact MANY THANKS! 44.gif

Thanks, Dan. I tried keep my opinion out of this list and just be positive about all the CJs. 12.gif I do see there are a couple where I need to write a fuller description. As for the photos, most of the 2003 CJs had their photos hosted on ST and thus lost them in The Great Photo Purge of 2004. 11.gif ImageShack has been reasonably reliable for me, and at least they don't cut you off with bandwidth limitations every month. But I have all my photos saved somewhere, just in case they need to be reposted. 21.gif

Very interesting, mayormommy. I was quite surprised to see my long-forgotten Vera Cruz CJ in the list... it's nice to see that some people still at least know it ever existed.

By the way, I'm pinning this topic... with so many great CJ's popping up everyday a list like this comes in handy.

Note: If anyone knows of a CJ over 5 pages that began in 2004 or over 10 pages that began in 2005 that I missed, please let me know so I can add it to the list. My intetntion is to add some links for the 2005 CJs this weekend, but I won't write up the descriptions until the Trixie nominations have closed. 2.gif

Actually, I think you have two CJs on there, with Independence City. Yes, I'll do the same little descriptions of the 2005 journals, but I think I'll wait a few weeks so there's no undue influence on the upcoming Trixies. (Plus I haven't read too many of them yet. 43.gif) I'll link them all this weekend, though, so it can be a handy reference.

I'd like to add that although I've set the page limit of 10 pages rather high for 2005, I don't want anyone to think that shorter CJs aren't worthy of attention. There are plenty of 3-9 page CJs that I liked very much and wanted to include but I needed some sort of objective filter or this list would have been 78 pages like the entire forum. 18.gif

EDIT: Okay, I'll change Independence City's status to ? so there's no pressure on you to update it anytime soon. 2.gif

    Hey, MM

Thanks for this as it is a fine additon to the CJ forum. It's nice to have one thread listing all of the great CJs of Simtropolis. I think more people will be interested in CJs if they see a brief description of it before they gaze upon it and let me tell you it can be somewhat intimidating. 3.gif Thanks for listing Palm Point on the list, and I'll look forward to seeing your description of it!

Date: 11/3/2005 7:56:11 PM Author: thatmonkeysim this is great MM i love it! im glad at least one of my CJs is on there! but are you gonna give the 2005 CJs the same detail as the 2004 not trying to put anymore work on you though... but the 2004 list makes me remince....

There are plenty of 3-5 page CJs that I liked very much and wanted to include but I needed some sort of objective filter or this list would have been 78 pages like the entire forum. 18.gif

Yes, I agree with that. I enjoy many of the smaller CJs that haven't really been noticed by the general public of the CJ Forum.

    thanks MM

and i agree there are alot of smaller CJs that are the bomb yet they dont get noticed most of the time because the CJer doesnt have name recognition or CJ recognition but thats ok if they keep at it theyll be a celebrity themselves!

o yea and thanks to the mod that made this a sticky 1.gif

    Wow, Mount Royale!

But I do think that you should add CJs with less. Some of the best ones (like Chaumont) are below that right now, and its only a matter of time...so why not add them now?

Just as an FYI, Adventures In New Urbanism (November 2004) has officially ended, so you should change its status. You know, if you have the time.

This is a great idea, by the way!!

Chaumont is on the 2005 list. There are a few others hovering at 9 pages that I have no doubt will make it onto the list in the next few weeks. But let me catch up with 10+ pagers first and then I may add some slightly shorter ones at the end of the year. 2.gif

EDIT: louisville327 - Really? I just looked at it the other day. I'll mark it ended for you. 1.gif

I just ended it four days ago, so no foul if you don't check it every single day of the week. I understand.

Thanks, MrC and Lynks. 48.gif I've just linked all the 2005 CJs and I'll come back to this in a couple weeks to fill in the descriptions and statistics. But right now I'd like to work on my own CJ for a few days. 3.gif

Thanks for answering my question about the images mayormommy. My backup pictures were also lost. You are right; I don't think negative things should be said about individual CJ's but I would not feel honest if I did not speak up on a general observation. I guess it is that engineering nature of mine to always seek improvement. You should see me lament about my own CJ.9.gif

Wow.. MayorMommy.. That must've taken you quite a lot of time to compose and then link the entire list.. I say three cheers for your amazing commitment to the Simtropolis City Journals! 44.gif

That's a wonderful list. There are so many CJs and this list is a useful help to find one's way... thanks a lot. I appreciate the effort you put in this list.
