i've been reading a lot of problems after updating to 10.4.3 in other forums, both software and hardware related. i'm hopeful that apple will fix these in the next couple of weeks, so i can play my game to its potential again.

with 10.4.3, I am now getting black blocky artifacts when I scroll SC4K. I have an ATi Radeon X800 (and dual 1.8 G5)

no problems with 10.4.2

I have noticed that the graphics drivers have changed in 10.4.3

I don't know who to complain to !! Apple or Ati !

Hi,

Try clearing the caches using either Onyx, Cocktail, Xsupport.
I am using SC4 RH on a G3 350Mhz with no slowdown from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3.
I have a 1Gb of RAM too. Add some RAM too.

yep have used the latest 10.4.3 compatible Onyx. XLR8yourmac.com has had another with similar problems.

I just got this response from Aspyr

Thank you for playing SimCity 4. Unfortunately, the OS update to
10.4.3 has created problems with users running nVidia graphics cards. We are currently working on a fix for this issue. Please keep an eye on our support page at http://www.aspyr.com/games.php/mac/10880/support/ for the latest updates on this situation. We're deeply sorry for the inconvenience!

Offcourse they are trying at least to be seen as interested with the situation because they are hoping to sell more Mac Delux Edition...
Lets ask them to fix the night light issue with this coming update...
I do not think they are serious about after sale support. Hope they come up with something to fix 10.4.3 issue.

Stupid question, but I have to ask - you guys with the G5's - you have your processor set to highest in System Prefs? Energy Saver to be more exact.

Buddy o' mine noticed lackluster performance and video artifacts in iMovie. He checked the setting, and it was set to Automatic. He changed it to Highest, and although it made the beast louder with all the clamor from the fans, it seemed to help some.

Oakenshield,

Is that feature only for the G5's? I checked the energy saver on my G4 and it doesn't appear. I know that OSX scans your system and installs the appropriate software, but one would think that would be a feature for all computers.

I've a 1.2 G4 iBook, and it's enabled. It's under the Options tab in Energy Saver.

It doesn't appear on my 867 G4, though.

Stretching memory here - G4 in the 867 is a rather standard 7445 G4 - high cache, high consumption desktop model. The iBook sports the 7457 G4 - reduced cache, reduced power consumption.

Thus, (focusing crystal ball), I'm guessing you've a G4 tower, and you're not seeing it since it

Thine crystal ball speaketh the truth.

A G4 tower I have. I guess it is set up to run at peak efficiency at all times, considering the differences between it and other computers that might need a bit of a slowing down.

I too have had a reply from Aspyr.

They have duplicated the 10.4.3 graphics problem and are looking into it. However it seems that Sims2 has more severe problems with 10.4.3 and as that is a bigger seller we may have to wait.

anyway, I just have to boot into 10.4.2 and I can then play SC4K OK again.

(and I have checked my G5 is on highest CPU setting with no nap)

BTW, all this checking and changing video resolutions has enabled me to find that the highest resolution which I can use which upon saving a map does not result in the blue bar across the city in region view is 1600x1000. I hope that makes sense.

I just downloaded 10.4.4 and it doesn't seem to have changed anything. My sim city with 10.4.4/10.4.3 doesn't go fast at all and is virtually unplayable. I'm on a
Power Mac6,1/Power PC G4 and I have a nVIDIA GeForce4 MX. I'd love to know anything that I could do that would help even the slightest bit but I don't know much of the computer lingo so I don't know if the information I gave you will help much but I hope it does! Thanks!

Well now there's 10.4.4 out. You might be able to try that with the updater thingymobobber program. Apple is definetley going to come out with compatibility faster than EA's going to dish out a patch, so I would just wait and see. I don't have Virtual PC so I can't install SC4 on my Mac and see how it runs on 10.4.4, so download it and try it. Hope it works! 44.gif

Try a clean install. Don't forget to save every thing you wan't to keep.
Installation tips are on the apple site under support.

Goodluck.

Well, I experienced the same prob.

Since I have two hard disks, the solution was simple :

I have Tiger installed on my main disk and (a slimmed down) Panther on the other one. The Panther system only took 1.2 Gig, so that wasn't too bad.

Now, whenever I want to play Simcity (or any other game having the same problem) I just reboot in Panther.

Hope this helps

Well I'm glad that you had two hard disks and that worked out for you! However, I don't have to hard disks and my game is still unplayable and I would like to have a solution or atleast some concrete of advice that would help. It's quite frustrating to me because I feel like I'm the only one with this problem and aspyr has not fixed it and it's quite a problem so if someone could please give me some advice it would be very much appreciated! Thanks, uncrazycooper13

uncrazycooper13, how much RAM does your Mac have? I have a eMac G4 1GHz with 768MB RAM. Simcity seems to have runned a-lot worse after that 10.4.3 update. I use to be able to play a city with 150,000 people and only one or two buildings would disappear in certain zoom modes. Now if I play a city with 20,000 people (and well spread out) 15-20 buildings will disappear in certain zoom modes.

You don't have to have two hard drives.  I partitioned mine so that I can have OS9 on one part and OS 10 on another.  Most people don't think it's worth the trouble, but I like it that way.

uncrazycooper: the NVidia card could be your problem here...did you install it yourself or did it come with the system?..that card was (and still is) notorious for lack of decent games capability. Have you tried slimming down visual settings? In the graphics options, turn off clouds, waves etc..anything unnecessary that requires graphics processing. Also, try using software rendering as opposed to hardware and set graphics to 16 bit..It might look a bit shabby but it should make gameplay better.

Hope this helps in some way.
