Graphic issue- Blue, black and green boxes appears

Hello guys,

 

I've got a problem with textures on buildings. It seems like blue, black a green boxes instead of buildings. For example, hospital is like an enourmous green box... Something like this:

 

 

 

 

Could someone of you help me? I use SimCity4 launcher... Game works fine, but these bugs makes me angry

That is an error that is caused by running out of adaptor space on your GPU.  I get it within 15 minutes if I run in hardware mode, so I run in software mode.  Simply add -d:software to your command line when you start the game.

 

The other possibility is you have an HD building and are actually running in software mode.  In that case, try hardware mode.

I tried to change between hardware/software rendering with no effect... Actually I use DirectX rendering. Do u have antoher option how to solve this? Maybe different type of launcher or something?

No, those are the only two that work.  the OpenGL option doesn't work with the current library.

 

Check the settings on your GPU and make sure that all the 3D options are set to 'application selected' or equivalent wording.

 

If you are running windowed mode try full screen.  (-f rather than -w).

How old is your GPU?  Could it have failed or maybe you have some bad memory chips?

I've never understood people who seek help for a problem then abandon trying to solve the problem after the first couple of attempts at fixing it fails.

 

That said, could be a driver issue, could be failing hardware as Nonny mentioned, could be overclocking that's stressing the hardware, could be mal/crapware that's sucking up the resources that would otherwise be dedicated to the game...

OK, here's my GPU: MSI GTX 660 and I've got new driver from nvdia- 320.49. No effect. Yep and I don't use any addon.. simple maxis my Win 7 has been installed only few weeks ago, so I hope there shouldn't be any malware or something like this. Ideas?

 

PS: I've noticed, that boxes appears only on zoom 4, the other zooms are OK without boxes. But I'm playing most on zoom 4

Now that's a clue.  If you are having problems with POV 4, do you have any 3D options forced ON in your GPU controls?  If so, turn them OFF.

I don't know, how do u think that. I've looked to manage 3D settings in nvdia panel, but I rly don't know, which option do u mean. I tried to change all things in that settings, but I don't see any diferences... there're still boxes...

Have you done a full depth virus and malware scan?  Try disconnecting from the net while playing.  No background apps should run.

All done, didn't help again I'm probably going to give up. I'm afraid that there's no solution of this problem...

Something seems to be corrupted, alright.  Save your user region (<you>\Documents\SimCity 4\*) and do an uninstall, then an install.

I've already tried reinstall and then tried to run it without launcher and mods.. still boxes.. POV 4 5 instead of POV 4

Forgive me if it's already been mentioned, but have you uninstalled your video card drives, then reinstalled them?

 

Are the black and green boxes CONSISTENT where they appear? As in, a green box ALWAYS appears on the hospital lot?

 

Is it possible your video card is overheating? Speccy can help you gauge whether or not that's the case.

 

Do you have visual problems in any other game?

 

Do you own the disk version, or the digital version? If the former, what's the your .exe's version number?

I'm having the same problem as well. A green box on the side of the hospital, a blue box in the middle of the medium plaza. At zoom level 4. Different zoom levels and different rotational views yields different sets of blue and green boxes. I have tried all the settings as above but nothing helps...

Well, first off, don't bump a thread that has been dead for months.

Second, do you get any errors during installation of SC4? That can happen if your SC4 installation is not complete.

And what is the version of your game.  Use windows explorer to find the file SimCity 4.exe then hover your mouse over it.

I did a install from disk and patched using UPDATE_SKU1_TO_P1_B638.EXE then SC4Update4BAT.exe.

If the BAT update is installed, the EXE should say that it's updated to version 1.1.640.0

When I ran  UPDATE_SKU1_TO_P1_B638.EXE, i got these patch warnings: "old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

 

Ran  SC4Update4BAT.exe without a problem but still stuck with Version 1.1.6380.0.

 

Am I using an update from the wrong region???

If you have a game that is not shipped from the North American region, you probably have the wrong update.  To try the alternate one you have to reinstall.

 

You can save yourself from all this by repurchasing the game in its newer digital download form from amazon, gamersgate, steam or origin.  This version (1,1,641) is fully patched and runs without a disk in the optical drive.  If you watch, you can often find this on sale for around $5.

Ok thanks, yeah, will look out for the next digital copy sale. A bit of a hassle to reinstall all the plugins though haha

You don't have to reinstall your plugins no matter what.  The user space, if present, is preserved across multiple installs.
