No job zots!

Before I started this thread I've done research and found nothing specific to my issue.

I've been playing for 6 months now and this has never happened before. When I start a new city, and it reaches about 3-5k I get no job zots everywhere. I build another city and connect it, with jobs, but it seems that doesn't work. What makes it worse is that demand for commercial is negative, so I build industrial and agriculture but that does nothing. No one goes to them, I makes taxes lower, build and efficient mass transportation (I have NAM too). I even had some of the city ordinances like tourism and the like to boost the RCI. But nothing, the residential demand is very high but everything else is not. What happens is that houses get abandoned and they just refill its an annoying cycle and the game is unplayable at this point.

I have done everything like build parks, schools and libraries, police stations and a great transport system. If there's one thing I'm good at its building a good road system. I deleted and reinstalled the game and same issue.

The CAM might help (available at SC4devotion). This mod alters the commercial demand a bit. It also adds some stages (up to 15 stages) so you can build taller buildings. Important is that you download buildings of that stage as well (buildings with the CAM as dependency). Even if you don't want to download all those skyscrapers it should help a lot. ;)

are the industrial and residential parts of your city close by?

Sims really don't like long commutes

Yeah. To a Sim a 'long commute' is a couple of blocks... My cycle to work would be about a large city tile across...

First, let's see if we are on the same playing field.  What's the version number of your game?  Find SimCity 4.exe and check and let us know.  There are a number of things that can result if you are not up to date.

Meanwhile, try running ground heavy rail (trains) between your two cities with stations in residential, commercial and industrial parks.  And it would help if you would post a picture.

Definitely try and keep your transportation options available for the Sims. Make good use of the bus stops to get your sims to the train and ferry stations quickly.

I have very high heavy rail usage in my region with Sims crossing multiple city tiles  (all med size city tiles)and still happy as a pig in slop (by majority of course). I also get really good ferry usage along side the trains by makeing sure their are plenty of bus stops along arteries passing by the RCIs and next to both the train & ferry stations.

This applies only if you aren't using the NAM.  With the NAM, you can spread out your zoning as much as you like, as long as you supply a sufficient transportation infrastructure.  For spread-out zones, this generally means a lot of subways.

With the NAM, every commute within a city (even a large tile) is a short commute.  This is a side effect of eliminating the "abandonment due to commute time" problem.
